Family Prayer

Gospel Reading for Sunday, November 11 th, 2018

Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time.

True Love of God and Neighbor

Questions for Family Discussion:

  • Have you or your family donated money or toys or food or clothes to St. Vincent de Paul or Goodwill?
  • How have you volunteered to help out?
  • What does it mean to be generous?
  • How are you generous?

Please consider reading the upcoming Sunday gospel together as a family. The questions above are good conversation starters as you prepare your children for weekly mass.
A Note from the Principal:

Dear SJE Parents,

Our students are focusing on goodness this month, as we work our way through the Fruits of the Holy Spirit. In November, when we celebrate both All Saints Day and All Souls Day, we are teaching our students to pray for friends and family members who have died.  Each day, our students gather as a homeroom and pray for one or more family members or friends. This simple morning prayer helps our students to understand the importance of remembering those who have died before us. These souls may be gone from our day-to-day lives, but this type of prayer helps to keep them alive in our hearts. We pray for a peaceful transition from earthly life to life in heaven, and for those souls in purgatory, awaiting the gifts of our prayers. What a beautiful way to teach these concepts to our students!

Our students will also be working on demonstrating acts of goodness here at school. When an adult observes a student living out the month’s Fruit of the Holy Spirit, the child is rewarded with a paper leaf. These leaves are on display on the large tree cutout located in the landing area of our main school staircase. We love watching our tree sprout more and more new leaves.

Turkey Trot 2018
On Tuesday, our students completed the Turkey Trot obstacle course (inside due to wet weather) during PE and after school as a part of a special Fuel Up to Play 60 event. We covered 95 miles towards the 1,000 we need for the Moove in Wisconsin Contest. Help us move ahead in that contest by recording your walking/running miles on the monthly fitness calendars sent home or record on paper and turn in each month!
Thank-you to parents and teachers for helping with our event including serving nachos afterwards in honor of National Nacho Day!

World Record Cup Stacking Participation!

Today, PE students participated in the Guinness World Record attempt for “Most People Sport Stacking at Multiple Location in One Day!” The current record to beat is 622,809 stackers! Watch for updates on if the record was broken!
Early Childhood Programming

We are in the process of investigating the possibility of offering a K3 program. Interested families have been asked to complete a survey, available on our school webpage. Do you have a friend or relative who might be interested in K3 for their child? Please have them log onto our website:   www.sje.k12.wi.us , and complete the survey. Remember, our current families are our best advertising!

Please consider stopping by our St. John the Evangelist Craft Fair, this Saturday, between 9 AM and 4 PM. With over 170 crafters, this is a great opportunity to get an early start on your Christmas shopping, while supporting our parish Christian Women and our Home and School Association.

Mark Your Calendars for our Annual Christmas Program

Our students are already hard at work preparing for our Christmas program. Mark your calendars now, (if you have not already done so) for Wednesday, December 12 th , at 6:30 PM.  All our students, in grades K4 all the way through our eighth graders, will perform in this annual event. There is truly something for everyone, from plenty of religious music, to a few secular favorites.  Singing, dancing, and plenty of camera-worthy moments will round out the evening.

Planning on sharing this fun event with grandparents or friends? Consider coming to our 12:30 PM dress rehearsal, also to be held on Wednesday, December 12 th .

Please make note that this is a mandatory event for all our students. All students are expected to be in attendance at the evening performance, dressed in their Sunday/holiday best clothing.

Piano Lessons

SJE offers piano lessons during the school day for enrolled students. If you are interested in having your child participate in piano lessons, please call the school office at 414-321-8540. We will put you in touch with Linda Kowalski, our piano teacher.

Winter Fundraisers Have Begun!

Last week’s paper envelope contained information on our winter fundraisers. This year, we are offering three choices to our families – See's Candies, Colectivo Coffee, and Rubi Red Cranberry products. All three of these choices make great gifts, and, of course, all will be delivered in time for Christmas. All payments, regardless of which item is ordered, must be sent in to the school office with completed order forms no later than Wednesday, November 21st. Please make all checks payable to St. John the Evangelist.
