The Rev. Annie Pierpoint Mertz, Rector at St. Paul's, Benicia, and her husband Andrew welcomed their second son, Wesley Jonathan Pierpoint Mertz, on Monday, Jan. 7 at 7:28 p.m.  He weighed 9 pounds, 8 ounces and was 23 inches in length. Both mom and baby are doing well. 

River City Food Bank, partnered with The Center at St. Matthew's, is expanding their hours to include the second and fourth Fridays each month. Volunteers are needed for 9-11 a.m. and 11-1 p.m. shifts. 

Bagging food, sorting diapers, helping people choose food and building community with other volunteers and our guests -- that is what happens when serving at  River City Food Bank .  Serving is a great way to get to know one another and share God's love with our neighbors in a very tangible way. Join with parishioners and friends from around the St. Martin's, Davis, community as they read Love in a Time of Climate Change. Author Sharon Delgado will be the featured speaker at the Yolo Interfaith Alliance for Climate Justice conference in March, and this book helps prepare for topics discussed at the conference.

This book "challenges readers to develop a loving response to climate change, which disproportionately harms the poor, threatens future generations, and damages God's creation," according to the publisher. Discussions of the book will be held on Wednesdays starting Jan. 23 to Feb. 28, from 7-8:30 p.m.

Trinity Cathedral parishioners will be volunteering for Sacramento County's 2019 Point-In-Time homeless count. The homeless count is essential to help our county apply for the appropriate level of federal homelessness funds. It's well organized and you will feel good about doing it.

Volunteering does not require any prior experience but you must be 18 years of age or older; have a strong interest in helping people who are experiencing homelessness; be able to walk a couple of miles and attend a required training class to learn to safely conduct accurate counts with teams within carefully pre-mapped territories. Information about the count goes out within the homeless community so that our counters are welcomed by people who are homeless. 

The counts will occur Jan. 30-31 in the evening, and locations are to be determined. Volunteers go out in groups to their assigned area. You can sign up here; please also email Shireen Miles to let her know know you are interested:  [email protected].
