 November 10, 2018 - November 18, 2018
City Offices Closed in Observance of Veterans Day -  In observance of the federal holiday, all city offices, including the 18th District Court will be closed on Monday, November 12.  Trash and recycling pickup will not be affected.  Once again, the  Wayne-Ford Civic League will be partnering with local elected officials to ensure veterans in need and active duty families have a proper holiday meal.  If you know a Westland Veteran, have them call the Mayor's Office to register for their meal. Meals will be dispersed Saturday, November 17 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Wayne Ford Civic League. Those looking to participate must register by Thursday, November 14.  Participants can choose between Turkey (16-20 lb) or Ham (10-12 lb) and all meals will include stuffing, mashed potatoes & gravy, sweet potatoes, corn, green beans, cranberry sauce, and heat & serve rolls for a family of 6-8 people.

Pizza Palooza - The Relay for Life of Westland and Wayne is holding a fundraiser on Tuesday, November 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.  The event includes an all you can eat pizza Fundraiser with a quarter auction. Wristbands will be sold at the door for $10 for Adults and $5 for kids 7 & under.Pizzerias from all over Westland and Wayne will compete for "best pizza" and attendees will cast their vote. Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.  


Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location:

Friends of the Library
  • There will be a Friends of the Library meeting on Tuesday, November 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the Westland Public Library, located at 6123 Central City Parkway.  
Zoning Board of Appeals
  • The ZBA meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 14 at 5:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.  
Library Board
  • The Library Board will meet on Tuesday, November 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Westland Public Library, located at 6123 Central City Parkway

Friends of the Library Booksale -  The Friends of the Library will be hosting a used book sale all weekend.  Stop in to browse through the thousands of titles that are for sale.  Whether you are into romance, mystery, biographies or non-fiction; you are sure to find something to fit your taste.  All of the books are at massive discounts.  The sale takes place on Friday, November 16 and Saturday, November 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Sunday, November 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00p.m. 

Lightfest - The  holiday season is right around the corner. Christmas is a time of traditions for many people, and one Westland tradition is the LightFest on Hines Drive. This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the longest drive-thru holiday light display in the Midwest. For a small donation you can drive through five miles of spectacular displays that are sure to get you into the holiday spirit. The LightFest attracts people from all over the region every year because new displays and features are added annually. LightFest officially opens on Thursday, November 15 and is open nightly through December 31st. For specific hours and details, please call 734-261-1990.

SAVE THE DATE - Mayor Wild's 2018 State of the City -  On Tuesday, November 27, Mayor William R. Wild will be holding his Annual State of the City Address at 6:00 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd. This year's State of the City will be a townhall style event, where the Mayor and members of his administration will share information on all the progress the city has made this past year as well as an outlook for 2019.
