If you subscribe to the ‘less is more’ principles of hosting then Jesus is your hero. He was a master at extending simple invitations, “Come and See”, “Follow me”, “I’m coming to your house for dinner” and “Do you want to be made well?” to name a few.

I am stunned by the following Jesus accumulated through these basic invitations to connect. It was like he could reach into the heart of a person and invite them toward something they already wanted.

Parish vitality could be measured by how many invitations it offers. When we invite people to church we are inviting them into healthy compassionate life.

This Sunday and Monday we have an opportunity to invite friends, neighbors, family or co-workers to our parish to reflect on something that we are all challenged by and grateful for- technology.

This is not a lecture about how bad technology is for us.
This is not a lecture about how our children’s brains are rotting from too much screen time.
And it is not a lecture about how if you don’t keep up with technology you will be missing out.

Instead this is an opportunity to reflect in a communal setting on how technology is part of our lives. The invitation is to look at ourselves, our society and consider adjustments that would be healthful for our families and ourselves.

I am committed to helping our parish thrive. One way to do this is to be a place where we are reflecting on relevant matters in a thoughtful healthy way.

What would Jesus do?
He would invite people to “come and see” he would ask them, “Do you want to be made well.”

Our society needs parishes to be vital communal gathering places.

Now is the time to send email, make phone calls and invite your friends, neighbors, co- workers to come to your parish and spend an hour reflecting together on the impact and experience of technology on our lives.
