February 2019

Hello Families,

This month we are focusing our Service Learning Project to help the community program End 68 Hours of Hunger! End 68 Hours of Hunger  is a private, not-for-profit, effort to confront the approximately 68 hours of hunger that some school-children experience between the free lunch they receive in school Friday and the free breakfast they receive in school Monday. We encourage you to send your child to program with a non-perishable item to help support this cause. Last year we collected 1200 items and this year we would like to give back 2000 items! You can drop off items until March 8th.

We will be hosting our 2nd Annual Children's Carnival on March 9th from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm at the Exeter Area YMCA! This is a free family fun event for you all to attend and includes an animal show, magician, jugglers, and more! Please come join all the School Age Child Care Staff for a fun exciting day at the Carnival! If you can, please bring a non-perishable item to donate at the door to help support End 68 Hours of Hunger! We hope to see you there!

SACC is on Facebook! Please be sure to join our new Facebook page " Southern District YMCA School Age Child Care"     to see what everyone is doing at their before and after school programs and to stay up to date with all of our events and more!

Best,

Stephanie Sturgis

SITE SPOTLIGHTS
Brentwood: Hello everyone! Very excited to be back around the students and the families that I've connected with last school year. This month is filled with lots of fun crafts and activities for the kids to enjoy. We are focusing on the importance of kindness, to our friends, families and others around us. Let's practice kindness not just at the YMCA, but in and out of the classroom as well. Stay warm and keep on smiling!!

Danville: This month is all about kindness. We are going to focus on how to be kind to ourselves, friends, family, and strangers. We will be making a banner with many different acts of kindness we can perform and see how many we can check off before the month is over.

East Kingston: Hi East Kingston families! We hope you are all enjoying a wonderful winter and that the kids are looking forward to a fun-filled February vacation! Our East Kingston kids are busy this month exploring our theme of kindness and continuing to engage in fun activities both outside and in! We appreciate your patience as we continue to search for a permanent EKES site director!

Exeter: Hey Exeter families hope you are all doing well! Exeter has already had a fun start to the month, engaging in a ton of fun active group games outside in the gorgeous stretch of weather we had last week and spending some time in enrichment exploring the different ways kindness makes people feel! Our Exeter group is super excited about some fun new toys and games and our admin team has been busy reorganizing the space and getting everything set up as we prepare to (re)welcome our new Exeter site director Amy! Looking forward to a fantastic rest of the school year!

Fremont: Hi Fremont Families! I cannot believe we are into February already! This month I am really excited for a special art project we will be doing. We will have a special guest come in the week before February Break to work on something special with the kids. More details to follow! As always, we go outside everyday so I cannot stress enough how important it is to encourage your kids to bring out their hats and gloves with them!

Hampstead: Hi Hampstead families! February is in full swing and while many of our friends have been busy with after school activities and enrichments, our School's Out group has also been plenty busy with some exciting enriching games and science projects! We are looking forward to a great month of exploring kindness and how we can show it to each other! Also, be sure to say hi to the newest addition to the Hampstead SACC team Collin! Collin is a program assistant and will be working with the kiddos in both the AM and PM programs!

Hampton: Hi Hampton families! The cold weather is definitely upon us..brr! This month we will be focusing on kindness. We will be continuing to collect donations for End 68 Hours of Hunger. What a great way to show kindness to our local families who are food insecure. Every little bit helps! Looking forward to a great month of activities and crafts to show our children that "If everyone gives a little, it amounts to a lot".

Hampton Falls: Happy February Hampton Falls! We can't believe we are already past the one month mark in 2019 and that February vacation is almost upon us! Our Hampton Falls kids are looking forward to learning about all the different ways we can show kindness towards others, including collecting donations for our End 68 Hours of Hunger service learning project!

Kensington: Hi Kensington families it's Cody! Just wanted to start out by saying thank you for welcoming me in with open arms the past month, I'm so excited to be here! In this upcoming month we are going to be focusing on different types of kindness and how it is always around us! We are still planning to be going outside so please make sure to pack the winter clothes as well!

Kingston: Hello Kingston Families! A big thank you to those of you who were able to join us and talk about your careers and the paths you took to get there. Your support and interest in our program means a lot to us! We are looking forward to exploring the many ways to express kindness in the coming month and we are excited to welcome Challenger Sports to our Early Release day. We are still accepting donations for End 68 Hours of Hunger, and are challenging ourselves to reach the new SACC goal.

Newton: During the month of February, Newton will be focusing on friendship and kindness not only in human interactions but of those in nature as well.  We are excited to learn of natures odd couples and how different species get along despite their differences.  We are looking forward to teaching our children that even though we are different it is important to have respect and kindness for those around us.

North Hampton: We had a great month learning about the diverse people in our communities and the importance to treat everyone as an equal. Next month we will spread kindness like confetti and practice new ways to be kind to everyone!

Raymond: Happy February!!! Although it is a short month we are jam packed with kindness activities!!! This month we are really going to dive into what it means to be kind and how it makes us feel! We will be doing some experiments such as the domino effect, as well as some crafting with our kindness rocks! We look forward to another great month and being kind to one another!

Seabrook: Can't believe that January has come and gone and seeing how the kids at Seabrook have grown. For the month of February, we will be focusing on feelings, on finding positive ways to help learn about their feelings, and how we can help support them! We will also be doing some cool Valentine's day activities along with some new group games that we can all do together!

Stratham: For the month of February we are so excited to be learning about the impact of kindness.  We'll be spreading kindness to each other through Valentine's notes, mantra bracelets and practicing yoga.  We will be putting on a performance of Horton Hears a Who. Our older students will be learning how to show kindness to the environment by "upcycling" clothes.

A huge THANK YOU to Northeast Passage for coming out to our Stratham program and teaching the kids all about adaptive sports and inclusivity! Definitely an unforgettable experience for our kids!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!
