A Message From Our Founder
Michael and Pepper Jackson and Dr. Marko Bodor with his wife, Jackie, at Festival Napa Valley 2018.
As we approach the fifth anniversary of establishing the Napa Medical Research Foundation, we realize how far we have advanced regenerative orthopedics in a short period of time, and we would like to take this opportunity to reflect on how it all got started.
I was introduced to Dr. Marko Bodor by a dear friend who was a neurosurgeon and who said Marko “was the real deal”. After Dr. Bodor saved my knee from replacement surgery through the use of PRP, I became more focused on the emerging technologies behind “reduced pain, increased mobility and no operating table”.
While getting to know Marko, I was drawn to his range of knowledge, enthusiasm, hard work and multiple projects to advance the science of more effective and efficient delivery of medical care. What he needed was a funding source, which was not apparent in Napa, but was beckoning from institutions such as Harvard and Stanford. Dr. Bodor wanted to stay in Napa: it was his home, his children were in school and he loved the community, but he also had a passion to advance his research to simplify and improve delivery of medical treatments. He was widely respected in peer circles and in much demand as a medical speaker.

During that time, I also became aware of the great number of people who passionately wanted Dr. Bodor to stay in Napa, not only because of their own positive medical experiences, but also because of his personal warmth and kindness. Since I had some knowledge of how to start a supporting foundation, I felt compelled to see if we could help to keep Marko and his leading-edge research in Napa. My associate, Hanna Stolarczyk, went to work and after an extended communication with the IRS, on August 13, 2014, we were recognized as a 501(c)3 public nonprofit research foundation.
The next step was to put together a small Board of Directors of enthusiastic Marko Bodor MD supporters, and design a website to explain the Foundation’s mission and initial research focus. Since that time, we have expanded all aspects of the Foundation, including assembling a first-class laboratory to conduct research on a basic cellular level. With the help of an expanding base of financial support, we hope to realize the Foundation’s goal to become the leading West Coast center for regenerative orthopedics and ultra-minimal, ultrasound-based surgery for medical conditions of the spine, joints, nerves, tendons and ligaments.

2018 ACCOMPLISHMENTS
The Napa Medical Research Foundation team made exciting strides in the field of regenerative medicine in 2018. Fi nd out what we're most proud of accomplishing through our clinical studies, research lab, publications and presentations!
2018: Clinical Studies Highlight
During 2018, our research team worked on eleven clinical studies in the areas of sports medicine, regenerative medicine and ultrasound-guided surgery. Dr. Bodor is most excited about the case study of patient Oliver S. and the potential for this success story to lead to improving the lives of children.

Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL)
Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) Injection Validation
Extreme Athlete, Extreme Recovery
In March 2018, Oliver's MRI showed his ACL as "nearly normal" after receiving BMAC injections from Dr. Bodor, following a skiing injury deemed as "irreparable" by a top orthopedic surgeon. Read Oliver's story.
Poster Presentation
Oliver's recovery was so impressive, Bodor Clinic Fellow, Dr. Raj, created a poster on the original research , which was peer reviewed and accepted for presentation at the 2018 Annual Assembly of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation .
2019 Study with UC Davis
This year, Dr. Bodor and his research team are partnering with UC Davis to conduct a study of this procedure. Their hope is to treat ACL injuries in children who are too young to undergo surgical reconstruction.
2018: Research Lab Highlight
Opened January 2018!
Your donations help ensure the Napa Medical Research Foundation Lab has the most essential and up-to-date equipment for research studies and special projects!

One of our most exciting accomplishments of 2018 was officially opening the Napa Medical Research Foundation's lab for studies and special projects by our research team, Ryan Dregalla, PhD and Yvette Uribe, BS (pictured above).

Discoveries in our research lab directly impact clinical diagnosis and treatment that improve the lives of patients.
The Research Lab is located just down the hall from the Bodor Clinic inside the Napa Medical Research Foundation office suite.

Contact our Communications Manager, Cara Mae, if you would like to set up a tour of our state of the art research lab!
2018: Publications Highlight
PRP: History, Mechanism of Action, Preparation and Clinical Applications
By: Marko Bodor, MD, Ryan Dregalla PhD,
and Yvette Uribe, BS

In the book "Essentials of Regenerative Medicine in Interventional Pain Management", our research team authored a chapter on the history of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), how it works to reduce pain, how it is prepared for use and how it is applied in the clinic.
2018: Presentations Highlight
Throughout 2018, Dr. Bodor presented at leading research institutions and conferences around the US on a variety of topics to share his experience with the medical community. A few of these events, both near and far, are highlighted below.
13th Annual UCSF Spine Symposium
9th Annual PRP and Regenerative Medicine Symposium

25th Annual Napa Pain Conference

2018 Annual Assembly of the American Academy of Physical Medicine
2019: THE YEAR AHEAD
In the year ahead, we look forward to sharing stories of how your support of our efforts to advance research and pioneer new treatments helps improve quality of life for people of all ages in the Napa Valley and beyond! Below is one example of an exciting project.
Vineyard Worker Pilot Program
This January, Foundation staff has begun collaboration with Michael Wolf Vineyard Management Company to build relationships with the vineyard worker community and develop a project implementation plan.
A critical step in carrying out this important study is to understand and adapt to the unique needs and barriers faced by vineyard workers. In the next few months, we will continue to reach out to find interested and qualified applicants for this special project. Our hope is to create a sustainable program that benefits our community.
