Time to say a special thanks to all who helped with HUGS this past year.
The 2018 HUGS Community Christmas Program was an amazing success thanks to everyone who participated.
We have so many great families, individuals and volunteers who help to keep our program going and make it a success. We are grateful to you all. Thank you all who took tags and made donations to our program! Together we helped almost 300 children in need. We could not do it without all of you. Historical Tidbit:
Telephone History
The telephone was first invented by an Italian inventor, Antonio Meucci in 1849. Alexander Graham Bell acquired the first successful patent for the telephone in 1876. He brought it to mass market through his company, AT&T (American Telegraph and Telephone Company). Telephones were initially used for single person to person communication. It wasn't until the invention of the first telephone exchange in 1878 that telephones were used to connect with multiple people. After that the switchboard was introduced. Initially, woman would serve as operators, switching wires on a switchboard to connect callers to the people they wanted to speak with.
Today we have digital phones that transmit information via radio waves as 0's and 1's. Digital phones can transfer more information at once, and are less error prone. These phones allow for communication with multiple people at once.

83 East Water Street, Unit E-229, Rockland, MA. Telephone Operators will be on duty to connect calls from 5 switchboards that are connected to the displayed phones from 1900 thru 1990. Everything is hands on, interactive, fun. Talk on the phones, sit at the switchboards and see what it was like to be the operator and connect calls.

Darwin Day
is an international celebration of Darwin’s theory of evolution as well as a day dedicated to science communication and outreach, celebrated on or near the birthday of Charles Darwin.
All interested are welcome to join faculty, students and staff for a day-long event that includes natural history displays, faculty and student presentations, and a keynote presentation by world-renowned Canadian parasitologist and evolutionary biologist, Daniel Riskind.
The event takes place on
