A Letter from NDA President Tom Kiely

I had the great opportunity to attend a united session of Green Bay area school districts, businesses and local government officials on Wednesday at City Stadium. The overarching theme of the event was the unity and solidarity of the Green Bay area communities in preparing for the school year. Though we will have different approaches to the opening of school we all remain committed to the safe return of students and teachers to the classrooms, and the flexible, safe environments created throughout the local community.

As that event was a callout to the Green Bay area community, this is a great time to ask our Notre Dame Academy community to enhance our own behaviors and practices as we prepare for the start of school over the next few weeks. We have a tremendous responsibility to each other - students, families, faculty, staff - to give us the best chance to succeed. Let's put ourselves in the best position to do that.

At this time (Aug. 6), NDA has not made a decision regarding the scenario that will govern the opening of school. We have been gathering survey and comment data from the community.  We have been preparing three different scenarios to respond to different conditions emerging from the COVID-19 situation.

Working closely with Prevea Healthcare in our local setting, NDA will evaluate Brown County Health Department data on a weekly basis and weight the conditions at NDA regarding student, faculty and staff health.  Our commitment to the safety of all members of our community requires that we mitigate as best as possible the transmission of COVID-19 at NDA.

These data will include:
  • Illness and exposure/quarantine rates of faculty, staff, and students
  • Brown County infection rates and health department school infection trajectory
  • Absentee rates at NDA
As NDA receives more information on methods to assess the mitigation of COVID-19 in schools, this information will be published.

We appreciate all the inquiries you have made because they allow us to focus our thinking and responsiveness to the issues with which we all contend.

Please be sure that you access all the links in this COVID-19 section of the NDA website for information that will prove useful to you as we approach the beginning of school.
SchoolUniformsSchool Uniforms

The Dress Code for the 2020-21 school year has been established. There were minimal changes, however, we ask that you review the full dress code so your son/daughter is fully prepared for the first day of school. If you have any questions, please know we are here to help and our Main Office can be reached at (920) 429-6100. Students will need to be in Dress Code for orientations the week of August 31.

Lands' End is our exclusive provider of uniforms. Due to COVID-19, Lands' End has notified us their processing time frame from order to delivery could be up to two weeks. You are encouraged to order soon in the event something does not fit properly. Lands' End customer service has full refunds on all school uniform merchandise. NDA families will receive 40% off of their Lands' End order if you sign up for emails from Lands' End School through August 14.  The 40% off is typically one of the largest discounts you will receive on new uniforms.

ACTACT Testing

On July 31, in consultation with the NDA administration, Student Services counselors, the Maintenance Director and other area Test Site Administrators, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the ACT at NDA in September, October and December of 2020. This decision was not taken lightly as we are aware that there are seniors and juniors that want to take the ACT test. Although this may be causing some anxiety, it is important to remember that all Wisconsin colleges and universities along with many outside of Wisconsin will not be requiring an ACT score for admission for Fall 2021. These are unprecedented times that we are all trying to navigate. Unfortunately, this is a national and local trend as there are very few schools offering the ACT in the area during first semester due to the same concerns.

Our hope is to be able to offer it in February and April of 2021, but time will tell. Please reach out to Jill Zamzow-Gerl, Beth Abler, Becky Bain or ACT Test Site Administrator Amy Stover with questions.

The summer edition of the NDA Magazine is being mailed to alumni this week.
Director of Technology and Information Services Gina Fredrick is featured on the cover with her family.
Fredrick, a 1997 NDA graduate, is responsible for keeping her alma mater connected in many ways.
Despite facing tough personal circumstances, she shined in helping NDA make the sudden change to virtual learning in the spring during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
We hope you enjoy her inspiring story and the latest edition of the NDA Magazine.
