That means ten-year-old Max, who has homozygous FH (HoFH) - the most serious form of FH - may no longer have to endure weekly apheresis treatment to remove dangerously high levels of LDL cholesterol from his blood. It means his parents -- who both have FH -- can have more treatment options for their son and themselves so they can live long happy healthy lives.
You are one of the informed and caring people who understands the most common genetic condition in the world that causes early heart disease. You know how FH steals decades of life from adults and children, devastating entire families. You know that while we have made great strides in the last few years in understanding and treating FH, there is still so much research and improvement in care to be done to give more treatment options for people like Max.
Max is brave and hopeful for his future. He's taken medicine every day since he was two years old and has weekly apheresis treatments to filter large quantities of cholesterol out of his body. He is lucky. For so many, FH and HoFH have yet to be diagnosed.
