Dr. Condon provided a brief overview of the Text-A-Tip Youth Crisis Hotline. He explained that District 90 is part of a regional suicide prevention task force. Started in 2016, the task force also  includes organizations such as NAMI, Thrive Counseling Center, and Riveredge Hospital. District 90 will be participating in a suicide prevention/mental health assistance initiative called,

Standards Based Grading Overview ~ Alison Hawley
Dr. Alison Hawley, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, presented an update on the Standards Based Grading (SBG) initiative that is being investigated for adoption in District 90.  The Superintendent's Leadership Council has been researching various elements of Standards Based Grading with an eye to possibly bringing the new grading protocols to D90. The primary goals for adopting a SBG initiative include the clear alignment and articulation of learning goals, assessments, and grades, while also reducing the arbitrary nature of classroom grading.  Dr. Hawley also explained that OPRF High School is also looking into the possibility of adopting SBG protocols. She emphasized that the projected adoption of SBG remains several years in the future. There was a robust discussion among Board members about the benefits of  adopting SBG protocols for D90 students, families, and teachers. Dr. Condon and Barb Hickey complimented Dr. Hawley and members of the Superintendent's Leadership Council for their work on Standards Based Grading initiatives.  Additional information can be viewed in the Board Packet

Pre-Kindergarten Agreement - District 90/River Forest Community Center
Dr. Condon presented the Pre-Kindergarten Agreement between District 90 and the River Forest Community Center (RFCC) to Board members for review. The agreement outlines the responsibilities, terms, and conditions between the District and RFCC for providing an inclusive pre-kindergarten program. According to Dr. Condon, the feedback from parents, teachers, and RFCC officials has been exceedingly positive. He complimented Karen Boozell, Director of Special Education, for her leadership of the program and the relationship with RFCC. Dr. Condon also explained that the agreement is very similar to the previous arrangement with minor changes in verbiage and clarification of decision-making responsibilities. There was some discussion by Board members about the agreement. Board members were complimentary about the program, but wanted some items clarified before signing the agreement. The Pre-Kindergarten Agreement between District 90 and the River Forest Community Center will be returned to the Board of Education at the April meeting.  Additional information can be viewed in the Board Packet
