This year Christ Church and Christ Church Day School will observe the occasion by participating in the Peace Crane Project. Exchanges are planned with a school in Ixtacapa, Guatemala and with Vida Joven in Mexico. Join Charlette Preslar and members of the Christ Church Service Ministry team, during the 9:00 a.m. forum in Hinde Hall, this Sunday, September 23, for an interactive origami crane-folding event. Come learn to fold peace cranes that will send a message of love and hope to children around the world.

Did You Know?
Peace be with you...
|
|
|
Can you find it?
|
Did you know we have a Peace Pole at Christ Church? Do you know where it's located? Every Peace Pole proclaims the prayer, May Peace Prevail on Earth, in the language of the country and often several other languages as well. Our Peace Pole links our community with people all over the world who have planted Peace Poles in the same spirit of peace. There are tens of thousands of Peace Poles, in 180 countries, on all continents around the world, dedicated as monuments to peace.
This Sunday as we celebrate International Day of Peace; see if you can find the pole, and say a prayer for peace in these often confusing times.

Stewardship Campaign
It's that time of year again - our annual giving season begins this month culminating in our festive Ingathering Celebration on Sunday, November 18 at both services with mimosas and a bagel bar at 9:00 a.m.
Stewardship is about life, the whole of life. It's living the life God invites us to live - living more generously, more boldly and more faithfully. That's why at Christ Church we do not have a stewardship drive - instead we have an annual pledge drive to enable us to answer GOD'S Invitation to join God at Work in the World.
Pledging allows the vestry and staff to anticipate the annual income for 2019 and budget accordingly enabling us to RSVP to the generous GOD whom we worship and serve. Pledge cards have been mailed and are available in the parish office, at the entry to the church and the Welcome Tent. Online pledging is also an option. Visit the parish website or s

The Blessing of Our Animals
St. Francis' Feast Day
|
|
|
Thursday, October 4
|
Saint Francis is a patron saint for many causes but is best know for his care and concern for animals and the environment. We celebrate this special day by recognizing the important parts pets play in our lives. They are members of our family, and we love them, and this our chance to bestow a blessing upon them.
This year we will combine pet blessings events, parish and day school, on Thursday, October 4 at 8:00 a.m. in the church courtyard. If you have not witnessed pet blessings at the day school, you are in for a WONDERFUL treat - i
t is marvelous chaos! Bunnies, guinea pigs, snakes, lizards, fish and more join the traditional dogs and cats to be blessed. We will be collecting
Pennies for Paws,
so gather your loose change and bring it along.
For the
first time we will have an additional offering of noon time
Pet Blessings To Go.
If you're out walking your pet or wish to cycle or drive by for a quick blessing, Rev. Anne will be stationed by the church entrance on Ninth Street from
12 noon-1:00 p.m.
We'll have special St. Francis medals for your pet and a treat or two!

The Way
EDSD Youth Service Pilgrimage
|
|
|
Exciting youth opportunity
|
In
October, youth in grades 6-12 are invited to take a closer walk with God.
Based around the idea of a service pilgrimage, this event will trek youth through two different mission areas of our diocese.
The
high school track
will be in mission area five with the overnight spent at St. Bartholomew's, Poway, and the
middle school track
will be in mission area three, with the overnight spent at St. Andrew's, San Diego - Pacific Beach. Both groups will serve at three-four churches/ministries over the course of the weekend!
There will be ti
me for service, time for worship, and tons of fun as our vans caravan from church to church. Our weekend will culminate with a large group worship service incorporating both the middle and high school track!

The Invitation
Welcoming our little parishioners
|
|
|
Pick up an Invitation |
With our inaugural Family First Sunday behind us and three Sundays until our next event (October 7), we hope to see families worshiping together in church in the coming weeks. Don't worry about wiggles and giggles, and heaven forbid, tears in the church.
At Christ Church we believe worshiping together, in a truly inter-generational service, enhances the experience for all of us.
To help engage your
young parishioner pick up an Invitation packet
in the bookcase as you enter. It is filled with activities and crafts, geared to the service, that are guaranteed to keep your little one busy!

Check the Box Sunday
Sunday, September 30
In the business of life, it is helpful to be able to take care of more than one thing at once. Sunday, September 30th, you are invited to check some things off your list...while you are at church!
In the courtyard look for:
- A voter registration table - If you have not already registered to vote in the upcoming November mid-term election, or you have moved, you may complete the necessary forms here.
- An altar flower table - you may order Altar flowers for any specific Sunday of the year to honor, commemorate, and give thanks for someone or something special.
- The Welcome Center - if you do not have a name badge be sure to fill out the form to order one. The cost is $10.
- Take a photo for the online Realm directory. Look for the Realm table, and Kathy Ferguson will gladly take your photo. She will have a list of those in need of a photo.
In the Hinde Hall library:
- We will host our annual flu shot partnership with Walgreens. Most insurance companies cover this immunization, and Walgreens now takes Tri-Care. Those who are 65+ can now receive the enhanced version.
We hope that you will take advantage of this convenient opportunity to check a few things off your list.

St. Mark's Neighborhood Food Pantry
The need has no season
|
|
|
Bring rice and beans (canned) this Sunday |
Children are back to school and even though lunch programs may help, the need continues for low-income families, seniors on fixed incomes, and our neighbors on the street. When you grocery shop, please pick up a few extra items for St. Mark's. The food pantry helps supplement when resources are scarce.
Basic non-perishable items are always needed:
canned vegetables, beans (canned and dried, but not green), canned fruit, canned protein, pasta sauce, canned tomatoes, peanut butter and jelly, cereals, oatmeal, rice, canned soups, pastas, chili, cooking oil, and single-serving items for their homeless guests.
You may bring your donations to church on Sunday or drop them by the parish office during the week.

Thanksgiving Food Drive
Crazy as it seems.....
|
|
|
Packing is a family affair
|
The generosity of our parish and day school families has enabled us to pack and distribute hundreds of Thanksgiving food bags to families in need. It takes a village and weeks of planning to collect all the items on our list.
The collection will begin Sunday, October 7. The list of foods will be forthcoming, but keep your eyes out for deals on stuffing, mashed potatoes, and of course yams. More info to come next week so stay tuned.

From Presiding Bishop Michael Curry
Refugees Admissions Ceiling
|
|
|
Presiding Bishop Michael Curry
|
(September 18, 2018 - Episcopal News Service) - The
Episcopal Church is gravely disappointed by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's announcement yesterday that the administration has set the refugee admissions ceiling for next year at 30,000. This is the lowest ceiling in the history of our country and is one more effort to pull the United States back from our leadership in addressing humanitarian crises. Further, the retreat from refugee resettlement flies in the face of our nation's history of being a place of refuge to persecuted persons. The Episcopal Church, through the ministry of
Episcopal Migration Ministries, is committed to welcome for all.
