A Note from Peter

So many things make me proud to be part of St. Margaret’s Church. We opened our doors to over 1200 voters yesterday for Election Day, and I want to thank those who came out to provide hospitality to the voters. Thanks to Sue Snyder, Pat Hall, Rex and Casey Pingle, Molly Owens, Charlie Grayston, Mark and Vera Torrence, Joanna Tillman, Michelle Mullen, Nancy and Bill Ratchford, Sam and Lyn Sloan, LouLou Alwan, Susan Roberts, Fran Becker, Bob Baltz, the entire Feldmann family, Kathy Lang and Grant Harmon, we showed how a community of faith can open its doors for the larger community. There were so many people who told me how much we mean to them: as a place of worship, as an open place for the peninsula, as a place of love and peace.

I am also proud of all those who have taken up the call to serve their country in our armed forces. This Sunday we will celebrate Veterans Day, as well as mark the 100 th anniversary of Armistice Day, the end of World War I. Many of you have sent in pictures that we have placed in a slideshow that we’ll present during coffee hour.

At the 11:15 am service, after we toll the bell 21 times to mark the anniversary of the end of WWI, our director of music will lead our motet choir in a requiem-like service for Veterans Day. Please note -- we will be livestreaming this service instead of the 9 a.m. on Sunday.

Speaking of livestreaming, we are looking to share our services with more in the Broadneck community and beyond. If you are a Facebook page St. Margaret's user, please "share" the services with your FB friends. We could soon have over 1,000 views if just a handful of parishioners took this simple step!

It is an honor to lead worship with a community such as ours that is so full of live, love and service. Thank you!
Stewardship Report
We are still accepting stewardship pledges to plan for the 2019 SMC budget. Our current tally is 197 pledges (76% of goal) for $811,100 (89%). You can pledge online by clicking HERE or take a pledge card out of the pew pouches on Sunday and place in the offertory plate. You can also pledge by stopping by the church office.
As a reminder, a stewardship pledge is an estimation of what you will be giving St. Margaret's in 2019, not a contract. The vestry will now be using this amount to plan the church's 2019 budget. If you have questions, email Doug Seybert at doug_seybert@yahoo.com.
Members of the parish are asked to provide holiday meals for their neighbors this Thanksgiving. We have received the names of those needing help in purchasing their holiday dinner from Broadneck Elementary School and the A.A. County Dept. of Social Services. The list includes both seniors and families with children. The Mission Commission will provide the turkeys; parishioners are asked to provide the "fixings" for the rest of the meal and deliver the food basket to assigned recipients a few days BEFORE Thanksgiving Day. NO COOKING INVOLVED. Turkeys and baskets will be available for pick-up in the Parish Hall on Sunday, Nov. 18, or by separate arrangement. In advance, you will receive the name of your recipient and delivery instructions. For questions, call Barbara Marder at 410 518 9978 or email scubaesc@aol.com.

Expect a similar request for Christmas baskets starting the week after Thanksgiving. If you can do help with both baskets, please let Barbara know.
Day School Book Fair

Our Day School will hold their annual Scholastic Book Fair in the parish hall today through Friday, Nov. 9 at noon. Books for all ages will be offered for purchase -- just in time for the holidays -- and a percentage of the profits will go to the school. Parishioners are welcome to stop by!
Brotherhood Men's Breakfast Nov. 10

All men of the church are encouraged to attend our upcoming Men's Breakfast on Saturday, Nov. 10, 9:00 a.m., at Riverbay Roadhouse in the Cape center.

Young Children's Communion Class

On Saturday, Nov. 17 at 10 am in the church, we will gather children and parents to learn more about Holy Communion. This Eucharistic Celebration will teach us what communion is, why we do it, and how we do it. While we’ll be talking about communion at a child’s level, children of all ages are invited.  And on Sunday Nov. 18 at the 9 am service, those children will be invited to sit with their families in front of the church, and come to the altar with me while I celebrate!
Annual Holiday Bazaar on Nov. 17

It's time for the Women's Guild annual Holiday Bazaar coming up on Saturday, Nov. 17th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Shoppers will be treated to local and regional artisans selling handmade items as well as vendors selling various products for wonderful holiday shopping. Proceeds benefit the Women's Guild missions efforts.

A White Elephant (upscale yard) Sale will be held in the Fellowship Hall. If you have any appropriate items you would like to donate, please bring them to the Fellowship Hall on Friday, Nov. 16 between 5 and 7 p.m. For more information, contact coordinator Judy Hall at judy.hall0404@gmail.com .
Broadneck Ecumenical
Thanksgiving Project

For the last few years, Broadneck area churches have joined together to sponsor a Thanksgiving meal packaging event. Our Missions Commission has donated $1,500 toward this effort. This year, volunteers will meet on Sunday, November 18th from 4-5:30pm at Asbury United Methodist Church in Arnold for packaging up the supplies. Space is limited by the number of tables available so there is a sign-up form for interested parishioners:
Advent Study w/ Rev. Patti

Join us for a time of theological reflection during Advent using James A. Harnish’s book “When God Comes Down” as a guide. We will meet on Monday mornings at 10am in Classroom E or during our regular Monday night Faith and Fellowship gathering. Participants will spend time reflecting on scripture and God’s presence in our lives. First meeting is Monday, November 26th.

We will have 10 books available for purchase ($15) in the church office. Otherwise, you may order from Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=when+god+comes+down
Advent Wreathmaking on November 25

Families are once again invited to make their own Advent wreaths this year at St. Margaret's. Wreathmaking will be available in the parish hall on Sunday, Nov. 25th with a suggested donation for supplies as $20 . (NOTE: There will be no Sunday School that day.)

We welcome any clippings of greens, holly, or pine cones that can be used for decorating. Please leave all donations by the parish hall front door on Saturday, Nov. 24 or before 8:30 a.m. on Sunday the 25th.

Our annual Advent Lessons & Carols program will be held on the first Sunday of Advent, December 2nd, at 5 p.m. in the sanctuary . Through the experience of sacred Word and music, the story of the coming of Christ gradually unfolds and deepens our understanding of God’s message of love and redemption. The words and this music will prepare you quietly toward the true joy of Christmas. Childcare is provided in the nursery that evening.
