February 17 ..... The Rev. Thomas R. Albinson
February 24 ..... The Rev. Andrew J. Archie .
Did you know that Saint Valentine was a widely recognized 3rd century Roman temple priest and physician who aided and comforted the Christian martyrs during the persecution of Emperor Claudius II? Eventually, he was arrested for his faith, thrown into prison, tortured, and finally beheaded on February 14, 270 A.D. According to legend, St. Valentine signed a letter “from your Valentine” to his jailer’s daughter, whom he had befriended and healed from blindness. Another legend states that he defied the Emperor’s orders (who thought single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families) and secretly married couples to spare husbands from war. He is also considered the patron saint of beekeepers, referring to the sweetness and healing properties of honey.

We are reminded what Jesus said, “This is my commandment: love one another as I have loved you. There is no greater love than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friend.” (John 15:12-13)

Saint Valentine fulfilled this commandment, indeed!

HOLY LISTENING SESSION FOR BISHOP SEARCH/NOMINATING SEARCH/NOMINATING COMMITTEE: The members of the Bishop Search/Nominating Committee for the 11th Bishop of the Diocese of Missouri want to hear your voice. The committee is committed to receiving as much input as possible about how people in our congregations and ministry groups see our diocese, the work of the Episcopal Church in Missouri, and what you hope for and think we need in a new Bishop. The committee is beginning this process with conversations in every congregation. This time together will last 90 minutes. The Holy Listening Session for St. Michael & St. George is scheduled for Tuesday, February 19 at 7 PM in the Great Hall. Please make every effort to be present so that every voice is heard.
Here are two questions to ponder ahead of the Session:
•Tell us one thing that you would like a new Bishop to know about your parish; who is St Michael & St George in your community?
•Jump ahead to ten years from now. What accomplishments do you hope the new Bishop will have led us to?

Jan Torrisi-Mokwa was invaluable in enhancing the Women's Ministry at The Church of St. Michael & St. George, as well as founding the ECW Steering Council by lovingly guiding the group through a process that brought our value and mission statements to fruition. One of the ways that her memory will be honored is by establishing a fund to support the Women's Retreats that Jan so dearly loved. The money will be used to pay for retreat leaders as well as provide scholarships for attendees. If you would like to contribute, please make your check payable to CSMSG and note "JTM Women's Ministry Fund" in the memo.
