'Maria is going to Mickey's'

Is a commentary painting about immigration...the struggles and dangers that many people endure, to get to the promise of a better life.

Mickey is painted in a three-dimensional way. He is not a cartoon character anymore. The figure has a welcoming attitude, and is a symbol of what American has to offer: the Magic and Dreams.

Maria is trying to get to 'Mickey's, but she is facing the Coyote (a term given to human smugglers at the border) and is used as a literal translation in this painting.

She is wearing traditional ethnic clothing with colors playing and balancing the composition. She has an expression of faith for new possibilities, daring the Coyote with a fearless attitude....knowing, and hoping, that the reward will be greater than the danger.
