 :

After a busy Catholic Schools Week, it's nice to get back into our regular routine.   I am always impressed with how easily the students are able to jump right back in and get down to business. After all, one more week and it will be February vacation!

Our morning drop-off and dismissal routines have been going smoothly.  Thank you for your efforts in adhering to these procedures. Our priority is always for the safety of our students and these routines play a huge part in keeping everyone safe. We are trusting that everyone will not slip back into old habits(!)

Fear not...there is always something to work on! The next item on the "to do" list will be tardiness. There is a snowball effect behind the scenes for the student, teacher and staff when someone comes in late. We will be working on this next!

Enjoy a restful weekend.

Peace and God's blessings,

Ms. Ann E. Dougal

TIME TO EVALUATE

February vacation is a good mid-year time to evaluate the condition of your child's school uniform. Are those pants getting short?  Do those shirts have stains or holes?  Is your child wearing the correct pieces of the uniform?  The right gym uniform?

Please be sure your child is properly attired in uniform for the second half of the year.

From The Classroom of Mrs. Wozniakowski - Math

'Tis The Season For Math

It is that time again when the smell of mathematics is in the air!

Two weeks ago, the St. Michael's Academy Mathcounts Club held the St. Michael's Academy school competition to see who would represent the school in the Chapter competition. The students who will compete for St. Michael's are eighth graders, Sarah Szalai, Grace Gustafson, Hua Nghi, and seventh grader Keegan Sears.

For the last four months, these students and others have trained with problems that test their mathematical knowledge and add a little fun to math. Factorials, permutations, bases, right triangles, sequences, combinations, radicals, simplifying, and the Sieve of Eratosthenes are just a few of the math concepts that St. Michael's Academy MathCounts Club students reviewed for our yearly MathCounts school competition.

Our Mathcounts club emphasizes problem solving skills included in the frameworks of middle-school mathematics. The subject matter of Mathcounts includes geometry, number theory, and algebra. In addition, the program is designed to increase enthusiasm for math and engage students using a variety of math activities for all levels. The only requirement is to be open-minded about math and learn to have fun with it!

Our MathCounts Club can solve this problem can you?

Jan is thinking of a positive integer. Her integer has exactly 16 positive divisors, two which are 12 and 15. What is Jan's number?

Food For Thought

"If a tiny spark of God's love already burns within you, do not expose it to the wind, for it may get blown out... Stay quiet with God. Do not spend your time in useless chatter... Do not give yourself to others so completely that you have nothing left for yourself."
