2019 IMAGINATION CELEBRATION POSTER WINNER!
This digital illustration by Celeste Castrejon, age 13, grade 8, Doig Intermediate, Garden Grove Unified School District, teacher Amy Edwards, was selected as the winning submission for the 2019 Imagination Celebration poster. It reflects the theme of the 34th annual festival: "Logic will get you from A to Z; Imagination will get you everywhere," a quotation attributed to Albert Einstein. In the coming weeks, ArtsOC will post the other finalists and the public will be invited to vote for their favorites in our annual "People's Choice" awards. More about Imagination Celebration here.
INTEREST LIST OPEN FOR AFFORDABLE ARTIST HOUSING IN SANTA ANA
The Santa Ana Arts Collective, expected to open at the end of the year, is now inviting artists to submit their names for its interest list. Located at 1666 N. Main Street, it will house 58 apartments, a ground floor gallery, woodshop, music practice rooms, and studio spaces. 47 of the apartments will be offered to income qualified individuals or families earning 30% to 60% of Area Media Income, with preference given to artists. SCOTT MOORE WILL RECEIVE LAGUNA'S "ARTS STAR" LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Artist Scott Moore is the recipient of the 2019 Laguna Beach Arts Alliance (LBAA) Lifetime Achievement Award, which will be presented during the 13th Annual Art Star Awards on April 7. Well-known for his paintings in which miniature people are stuck in surrealistic settings, Moore also currently serves as President of the Board of the Festival of Arts of Laguna Beach. ROGER KALIA PROMOTED TO ASSOCIATE CONDUCTOR AT PACIFIC SYMPHONY
Roger Kalia, who was appointed in 2015 as Assistant Conductor at Pacific Symphony, has been promoted to Associate Conductor with a contract extension through 2020. Read more here.

Nominations are now open for the 20th Annual Orange County Arts Awards taking place on October 16 in the Samueli Theater, Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Details may be found here. Deadline is March 1. 

RESERVATIONS NOW OPEN FOR FREE LECTURE

Vijay Gupta's talk, titled "Citizen Artistry: Restoring the Human Spirit through Artistic Engagement", will explore how music and artistic engagement measurably improves the human condition, and will demonstrate why music's redemptive power holds more potential than traditionally realized. Gupta's lecture will also explore how the arts speak to people in ways language cannot and will discuss the importance of arts education to nurture empathetic and compassionate youth.
