Message from Pastor Tim
Dear Friends and Members of Ark and Dove,

For the second week in a row, it is my privilege to announce that we have called a music director.  After a thorough search,  Pat Sise has been called by Session to be our Director of Contemporary Music.   Pat is no stranger to Ark and Dove as he has been a musician in the band since 2012, subbed for Mark often and has most recently filled the position of co-interim with Paul Doughty. Pat has a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance and a Master of Music in Guitar Performance and Pedagogy from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. Pat plays in several bands, but his work at Peabody was focused on classical guitar.

I want to express my thanks to Paul Doughty for serving as co-interim this summer and for serving on the search team. I am also grateful to Laurie Barrow for serving as chair of the search team and for the rest of her team: Amita Dubois, Karen Dodson, Brooke Hisle, Wendy Wellington and Ryan Stavely.  They put heart and soul into the search as they revised the job description, advertised the position, reviewed the many resumes and interviewed with care.

Pat starts now and Margaret McGillivray starts on November 25. It is a blessing to be fully staffed!!

This Sunday is All Saints' Sunday. We will remember the Saints in our lives who now rest with God, and we will serve communion. There will be a time in the service, before the children leave, when you may light a candle for any loved one who was a saint to you.

One more invitation, and much encouragement to you from me, to sign up for small groups for our Stewardship Consensus Building Process. Your voice is essential as we move forward into God's future for Ark and Dove.

Peace,
Tim

Verse and Prayer
So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone.

-Ephesians 2:19-20

God of eternity: you desire to be in relationship with all people. You seek us out as we walk through this life. You are with us throughout our days. In raising your Son Jesus Christ from the dead, we know that not even death will keep you from us. Those who have gone before us now enjoy everlasting fellowship. We, O God, grieve loved ones who, having died, are not now with us. Still, fill us with faith and hope, grant us assurance, that we will one day join them in the circle of saints. Amen.

Notes for you!
This Sunday is the All Saints Sunday. As we remember and celebrate the lives of the saints, we have some special music planned for this weekend. First for our prelude, we have a flute and piano piece called “Minuet and The Dance of The Blessed Spirits” by Gluck from the opera “Orphéus”. The Children’s choir will be singing the Introit “Blessed Assurance”, and choir will be singing “Saints of God” as our anthem. Join us on this Sunday with the music tributes as we honor our saints!

Joyfully,

This Sunday we celebrate All Saints' Day where we can reflect and celebrate the lives of those family members who have passed. I will be performing a piece on guitar titled Elegy for a King. It was written by Frederic Hand and is an elegy dedicated to Martin Luther King, Jr. To close second service we will be singing Psalm 23 by Shane and Shane. I invite the congregation listen to this song in preparation for service, since it has not been done as a congregational hymn.

God bless!

Stewardship
Renewing our Annual Stewardship through a Consensus Building Process
Important! We need YOU! In place of our regular stewardship campaign this fall, we are instead engaging in a Consensus Building Process so that we can discern the priorities for mission and ministry and ensure we have the finances to support them. But we cannot do this without your input! Please sign up this week for one of the Small Dialogue Groups happening between Saturday Nov. 3 and Sunday Nov. 11.
Is the Bible really relevant to us?
A Lens of Love
Are you perturbed by all the evil in the world? Have you ever been angry with God? Do you find yourself bothered by great injustices? Join us this Sunday as we see what the Bible has to say about these issues. We are hosting a class to equip you to read the Bible right after the 11 am worship. We are following a book by Jonathan L. Walton called A Lens of Love: Reading the Bible in Its World for Our World . Come if you have read or not and bring a bagged lunch. Please contact Pastor Jon or Kim Champagne with any questions.
Outreach and Connection
The Voyagers: Men's Breakfast
The Voyagers, our church's men's group, will meet for breakfast at the church on November 17 at 8:00 a.m. Lewis Shorter will share some of his experiences. He has some fascinating stories about serving in an integrated military in the 1950's against a backdrop of segregation in the country as a whole, and how Equal Opportunity affected his career in federal service. Please tell Paul Doughty ( padough@verizon.net ) if you can make it so we know how many to cook for.
