United Way of Northwest Vermont Volunteer Opportunities - Fall 2018

United Way can connect you with hundreds of ways to give your time and make a difference in your community.

Neighbor Rides Program & Volunteer Opportunities

Neighbor Rides is a strategic initiative of United Way of Northwest Vermont supported by a dynamic group of community partners that brings people and places together to help meet the transportation needs of seniors and persons with disabilities.

Good morning,

Earlier this month, CCRPC, Champlain Housing Trust, and Housing Vermont held a press conference to review the results of the first two years of Building Homes Together (BHT), a coordinated five-year campaign to increase the housing supply in Chittenden County by 3,500 homes, 700 of which should be permanently affordable.

One of two housing production goals is currently being met. Over the first two years of the campaign, over 1,600 net new homes were added to the housing stock in Chittenden County, which exceeds the campaign goal of 700/year. However, only 191 homes are permanently affordable, which is well shy of the 280 needed to meet the overall affordability goal. View the data charts from the press conference to learn more about these goals and the current state of housing in Chittenden County.

BHT continues to call for increased investment through local trust funds at the community level, full funding of state sources like the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board, and another $37 million state housing bond. BHT and CCRPC also offers support for municipal tools such as zoning changes in communities that want to address the shortage of housing.

For more information about BHT and housing in our communities, please visit http://www.ecosproject.com/building-homes-together/ and contact me at cbaker@ccrpcvt.org or Regina Mahony at rmahony@ccrpcvt.org.

Best regards,

Charlie Baker
Executive Director, CCRPC
