Major Opera Figure & Founder of OC's Opera Pacific
David DiChiera has Died

Dr. David DiChiera, Founder & General Director of Orange County's Opera Pacific, has died at age 83 in Michigan. DiChiera was a highly respected figure in the American opera field, having founded and led as General Director the Michigan Opera Theatre for many years. He led Opera Pacific from 1985 to 1996, concurrently with his role at Michigan Opera, leaving to concentrate on opening a permanent new home for the Detroit company in a historic theatre. Opera Pacific dissolved twelve years later. DiChiera is often credited with having "discovered" one of America's greatest sopranos, Kathleen Battle. More here.
