Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month
(September 15 - October 15)

Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. "Hispanics: One Endless Voice to Enhance our Traditions" is the theme of Hispanic Heritage Month 2018. This theme invites us to reflect on Hispanic American's tradition, history and culture.

"I cannot separate who I am as a Hispanic when I do social work and when I teach social work," said Irma Sandoval-Arocho, a former NJ social worker now living in Puerto Rico. "I draw from my experiences as an immigrant to enrich how I teach and to teach others how I have lived. Celebrating Hispanic heritage means learning from the lived experiences of others. It means taking the time to acknowledge the contributions of Hispanics to everyday life and appreciating the differences that make all Hispanics unique."

You can read Irma's full reflections on Hispanic Heritage Month here.
