Getting accepted to the University of Iowa was the beginning of many "firsts" for Ana Arzate and her family. As a first-generation college student, attending college meant taking a new path no one in her family had taken before. As time progressed, she felt ready for another "first"-a summer internship in Paris, France.

Global research award to assist archaeological dig in Spain
Thanks to the assistance of a  Global Research Partnership Award (GRPA) from International Programs, University of Iowa Professor of Anthropology Katina T. Lillios, along with a group of UI students, will travel to Spain this coming July for the unique opportunity to participate in an archaeological excavation and develop important skills in research collaboration.

The African Studies Program and the Office of Outreach and Engagement invite you to attend a talk from Ohio University Professor Steve Howard entitled "My Daughters are My Writings: the Republican Brotherhood in Sudan and Iowa City." This program will begin with a reading of a new play entitled "My Daughters are My Writings" by Margot Connolly, followed by a talk from Ohio University Professor Steve Howard called "We Are Mahmoud: on the Path of the Prophet in Unsettled Times." The Irish Writing Program is a rigorous creative writing study abroad program requiring talent, commitment, and discipline Its goal is to help aspiring writers become better at their craft.  Interested students are invited to learn about this fantastic opportunity to enrich your writing skills over the summer (May 30 - July 13, 2019) in the heart of Dublin! Information session dates include February 18 and 20.
