Mountain Day: Starting the Climb
Lawrence Academy looks upward and onward...

Jaffrey, N.H. – In keeping with tradition, LA students spent Monday climbing Mt. Monadnock as a full school community.
While the day brought warmer temperatures than years past, students were all smiles on their way up – embracing the opportunity to get out of the classroom and get outside.

Spotlight on LA Seniors
Maggie Eames '19 on the college process

During freshman year of high school, teachers, friends, and relatives told me that senior year would be here before I knew it. I laughed at the notion, considering it would take me four years to get there; how could four years possibly go by that quickly?
And yet, as I sat in the front row of chairs on the back of the Quad at graduation this past June, watching the last of my older friends walk down the aisle to receive their diplomas, I understood the accuracy of what everyone had been telling me. I am now a senior applying to college, and it is finally our turn to graduate. Read more...
Going for Gold
Team USA's Brianna Decker set the tone

To kick off the first day of classes, LA had the honor of hosting Olympic gold-medalist Brianna Decker of the U.S. Women’s National Ice Hockey Team.
Brianna spoke to the entire student body about effective goal setting, reminding our students that obstacles along the way only make us stronger.
Brianna set the tone for the goal setting that students will be doing in advisory this month as they think critically about the year ahead. Check out the gallery...

Behind the Scenes

Lawrence Academy theater students are hard at work these days. LA’s fall theater production, Everybody by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, follows the story of the main character, Everybody, when they are summoned by Death and must choose what virtues they will bring to help defend them in front of God.
The students are enjoying rehearsing and adjusting the script, experimenting with different dramatic methods and techniques.
Everybody is a unique show that allows for much interpretation, for nobody exits the theater with the same opinions or afterthoughts. The audience-based approach has been my favorite portion of the process so far,” says Michael Kroll ‘21 . Want to see the show? You’re invited! It’s showing Thursday, Nov. 1–Saturday, Nov. 3 in our RMPAC Theater.

LA Digs Volleyball

To “set” the scene, LA’s volleyball team has high hopes for this year’s season after finishing second in the Independent School League (ISL) last season. A preseason play day at Pingree last Saturday certainly set the tone for a season of success, and it was a great opportunity for the team to size up this fall’s competition.
According to Head Coach Steve Engstrom, “We’re finally starting our regular season this week, and I am really excited about the potential this team has. We started our preseason by picking up right where we left off last year, with 10 returning players and a core group of starters that have been playing for three years together. Our team is focused towards progressing through our schedule this season while staying healthy to ensure that we can go the distance if we get the opportunity to do so.” LA volleyball’s first home match is on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 5 p.m. against a young and strong team from the Pingree School. Come out to the Stone Athletic Center and support the Spartans!
