Continuing Our Investment in the Child Welfare Workforce
All of us at NCWWI would like to thank the Children's Bureau for over 15 years of focused commitment and dedication of resources to the child welfare workforce. We are also excited to announce that we are funded for another 5 years, and are honored that we can continue to support and advocate for those who tackle the challenging work of child welfare.
A Message from the New NCWWI Management Team
NCWWI’s purpose over the past 10 years was to increase child welfare practice effectiveness through diverse partnerships that focus on workforce systems development, organizational interventions, and change leadership. This work is vast and far-reaching, and can only be accomplished collaboratively. NCWWI itself is comprised of a network of organizations working in partnership with the Children’s Bureau, our advisory committee, more than 20 schools of social work and numerous public, private and tribal child welfare agencies. We are deeply grateful to our partners, as together we have developed the leadership skills of over 600 child welfare directors, managers and supervisors across the country, supported BSW and MSW education for over 715 students, supported sustainable change and workforce innovations, and engaged thousands of people in conversations about workforce through our webinars and national networking. Because of these efforts, ”workforce development” has gained a higher profile in the literature, in conversation, and in agencies. People are paying attention to the child welfare workforce and its impact on the outcomes of children, youth and families.

As we reflect on our accomplishments, we want to thank all of our partners, and acknowledge our NCWWI leaders for the past decade, Katharine Briar-Lawson, Mary McCarthy and Nancy Dickinson, who have modeled adaptive and distributive leadership and fostered a climate of learning that welcomes all voices with integrity and respect. We are deeply honored to continue this important work and look forward to forging new, innovative partnerships in the next five years.

Warmly,

On September 20, 2018, NCWWI and the Children's Bureau hosted the presentation, One Heart Can Make a Difference as part of Worker Recognition Day. With introductions from Katharine Briar-Lawson from NCWWI and Children's Bureau Associate Commissioner Jerry Milner , this highly informative, inspirational and purpose-driven message from Mark Anthony Garrett addresses how every person within the child welfare system has the power to be a difference maker when their heart is emotionally connected to the jobs they perform.

Consider bringing together child welfare colleagues and staff to watch and reflect on the presentation together. Use our tips for hosting your own viewing party.
Council for Social Work Education Annual Program Meeting Presentations
We hope to see many of you at the CSWE APM next month. If you are unable to attend and would like more information on these topics please contact any of the presenters below for more information.

SAVE THE DATE!
Mark your calendars and plan to join the Children’s Bureau on August 20–21, 2019, for the National Child Welfare Evaluation Summit in Washington, D.C.

The Summit is designed to engage a broad cross-section of child welfare researchers, evaluators, CQI managers, decision makers, practitioners, and stakeholders to share information and explore pressing “research to practice” issues and dilemmas from a variety of perspectives. Attendees will share and learn about findings from recent studies; consider issues and dilemmas that accompany the pursuit of evidence and improved outcomes; and explore ways that we can leverage data and evaluation to advance our vision for a system that ensures we are a nation of strong and thriving families.
Look for more resources and information coming your way next month. We look forward to continuing to support your workforce development efforts! If you have any questions, please contact Sharon Kollar ( [email protected] ).

  Warmly, as always,
Your NCWWI Team
