EARLY MORNING DROP-IN MEDITATION
Begins Monday, September 17
Elementary and junior high students arriving at Cove before 8:30 AM are invited to participate in Early Morning Drop-In Meditation. This optional alternative to before-school outdoor recess is an opportunity for younger students to start their school day with a short period of calm, focus and quiet self-reflection.

We are pleased to announce that student artwork will be on display October 1 to 14 for the 5th Annual Cove Art Fair hosted by the North Suburban YMCA. This includes one entry from all the current elementary and junior high students, last year's 8th graders and the 2017 and 2018 high school art classes. Families and friends are invited to the culminating reception celebrating their talent and ingenuity on Sunday, October 14, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 4:45 PM. Students may bring their artwork home with them after the reception, or, if unable to attend, will be brought back to school.

HALLOWEEN SCHOOL DAY ACTIVITIES
Wednesday, October 31
High school students will be treated to bagels and juice compliments of the Parent Association and are encouraged to dress in school appropriate costumes.
Elementary and Junior High students will take part in our annual Halloween parade, followed by festive activities in their classrooms. students are encouraged to bring costumes to school they can change into after lunch. Please bring school appropriate costumes (no masks, weapons-related items or apparel, etc.).

National Emergency Communication Test Delayed
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will conduct a nationwide test of the
Emergency Alert System (EAS)
and
Wireless Emergency Alerts
(WEA) on the backup date of
October 3, 2018
due to ongoing response efforts to Hurricane Florence. The WEA portion of the test commences at
2:18 p.m. EDT
, (
1:18p.m.
Central) and the EAS portion follows at
2:20 p.m. EDT
. (The test will assess the operational readiness of the infrastructure for distribution of a national message and determine whether improvements are needed.
The WEA test message will have a header that reads "Presidential Alert" and text that says:
"THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed." Complete details from FEMA can be found at www.fema.gov/emergency-alert-test.
