C onnections Cafe
Friday, Feb. 1st; 10-12pm
Free; designed for friends 55+ years old
Common Ground is hosting Clark-Lindsey's Connections Cafe! This two-hour event shares community resources and wellness opportunities around Champaign-Urbana .

Professional Knife Sharpening
Market Saturdays, 9-11am
$4-$7 per knife
Starting back on January 5th, local knife sharpener, Laurence, will be in the Flatlander Classroom on market Saturdays to offer his expert knife sharpening services. Bring your dull and worn kitchen knives to the co-op, and they’ll leave like new!

Saturday, Feb. 2nd; 3-5pm
$10 owners / $15 non-owners
Interested in how to cook with plant-based proteins? Join us for this ultra-informative and delicious vegan cooking class! Instructor Michelle will introduce popular proteins and share her recipes for vegan fried chick’n, mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy, and chickpea cookie dough!

Tuesday, Feb. 5th; 4-5pm
FREE; registration required
In this hour long class, 1st & 2nd graders learn basic cooking skills, how to read a recipe, and make tasty snacks! Please e-mail education@commonground.coop to alert instructor of any dietary restrictions.

Thursday, Feb. 7th; 5-6pm
Free; must be FINI Grant recipient
Co-op staff is teaching a cooking basics class for FINI Grant recipients! This class will focus on knife skills, food storage, and simple recipes using fresh ingredients to maximize both your food budget and time!

Friday, Feb. 8th; 6-8pm
$15 per ticket
Looking for the perfect bottle of wine for your Valentine’s Day? Interested in learning about wine, cheese, and chocolate pairings? Whatever you’re in the market for, this event will cover it!  We have invited many of our wine experts to pour our favorite wines that also pair perfectly with our Co-op Cheeses, Chocolates, and Charcuterie! Learn about wine production, its regional flavors, and taste delicious wines! Buy two bottles of wine and get the 3rd half off! Cheese, chocolate, and charcuterie will be on sale too!

Saturday, Feb. 9th; 2-3:30pm
$10 owners / $15 non-owners
The weather is cold, and that can have an adverse effect on our skin! In this class we’ll make a healing salve that will not only soothe chapped hands, but also ease eczema, cuts, minor burns, rashes, bug bites and cracked heals. This salve uses shea butter, jojoba oil, and beeswax as a base with essential oils. You will take home your very own jar of salve!

Wednesday, Feb. 13th; 10am-6pm
$15 owners / $20 non-owners
What exactly are these meal kits? Think Blue Apron or Hello Fresh, but with tasty co-op foods, less plastic packaging, and more affordable prices! We do the shopping, you pick it up and cook at home. This month, we are featuring our Friday Feasts recipe for a vegan harvest grain bowl. Pick up is in the Flatlander Classroom. All orders must be placed by February 12th.

Thursday, Feb 14th; 6-7:30pm
$10 owners / $15 non-owners
Treat yourself to your own shower steamers! These little cubes are made with simple ingredients infused with essential oils. Similar to bath bombs, they’re placed on the floor of the shower so when water hits them they release healing aromas. You can choose from a range of essential oils as well as all natural food colors for your steamers!

Free! No registration, just bring seeds!
It’s time to start planning your garden! Stop by the mall hallway for the co-op seed swap Bring some seeds to share with others and pick up some new ones for yourself. We’ll also have a tips and tricks on successful seed starting and transplanting. No need to register!

Our second Friday Feasts is coming up! In the co-op deli, we’ll be serving up shepherd’s pie, with both beef and lentil versions. This meal will feature local ingredients from Triple S Farms, Blue Moon Farms, and PrairiErth Farms.

Growing your own food is a gratifying and practical hobby! Join us for a class on some gardening basics, including planting companions, rotating crops, seed starting, and general tips for planning your spring garden!
