Holt & Lakewood Elementary Schools Celebrate with Capstone Performances

Congratulations to the fourth grade students from Holt and Lakewood Elementary Schools in Durham for their stellar performances of Dancing the American Revolution!

Through dance, music and poetry, more than 180 fourth graders learned about the colonists, King George the Third of England and the events that shaped our country today.

NC Arts in Action residencies are curriculum-based and use the unique power of the performing arts to impact academic performance by giving children the confidence they need to do well in the classroom and in life.

We want to thank the fourth grade teachers at Holt - Ms. James, Ms. Barclay, Ms. Payne and program liaison Ms. Beckett, for their unwavering support - as well as to the fourth grade team at Lakewood - Ms. D'Auria, Ms. Rollings and program liaison, Ms. Schartz, for welcoming Arts in Action into their schools.

We also extend a special thanks to our Durham Principals Ms. Jones and Mr. Hopkins.

"Thank you for investing in Lakewood this year. I am personally very grateful to Arts in Action for all of the money that was raised to ensure we
were able to implement this program this year. There is no doubt that Arts in Action left a very strong impression on both my students and staff. The energy and positivity Arts in Action demonstrated throughout this residency is worthy of a medal."   - Lakewood Elementary School Principal James Hopkins
