Greetings!
Happy Halloween to you all! After a busy October, we are gearing up for even more exciting events this month. Keep reading to find out more!

First, we want to share a brand new, pre-recorded webinar on PHIT (The Population Health Information Tool) that we recorded with the PHIT experts at the Department of Public Health. This webinar walks you through how to use this handy tool to search for and analyze data on towns, cities, and the whole state of Massachusetts. Check it out below!

We are also excited to announce a brand new training this month on Motivational Interviewing . Though it's often used as an interpersonal tool, we adapted the techniques of MI to make it applicable to coalition work. We hope to see you there !

Thanks to generous funding from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health , our trainings are always free.

NOVEMBER TRAINING!
Tuesday, November 19th, 2019
9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Urban College of Boston, Boston MA

Topics:  Tools and strategies for motivational interviewing, using motivational interviewing in our community work.

Description: Motivational Interviewing is a powerful tool for supporting behavior change. It is a practical, empathetic, and person-driven approach for eliciting the internal motivation needed to make a change. Motivational Interviewing is a tool traditionally used in interpersonal relationships, so how can we use motivational interviewing in a broader community context? This training will cover the basics of motivational interviewing and how it can be applied to multiple settings, including community meetings, forums, and one-on-one conversations. Participants will be able to practice motivational interviewing and all the components of it by asking open-ended questions, affirming, using reflective listening, and summarizing during a conversation.

Trainer: Daisy Ortega, Health Resources in Action

Audience: Coalition leaders and members leading conversations in their communities and coalitions.

Participants will be able to:
  1. Name the basic principles of motivational interviewing
  2. Identity ways to apply MI principles into community work
  3. Explain the importance of motivational interviewing for supporting community change

THIS MONTH'S FEATURED RESOURCE
At the Community Health Training Institute, we strive to design our trainings with a racial equity lens, since we know that race is often the greatest indicator for health outcomes. This resource does not seek to answer all questions about how to better incorporate racial or ethnic equity into research, however it provides a detailed guide for researchers who examine data through these lenses. Read the working paper here .

This workshop will take place on November 13, 2019 from 9:30 am-12:30 pm . Register here .

This full-day training is for professionals committed to creating inclusive spaces for people of all sexual identities and genders.
