From the Headmaster
Dear Parents,

Students had their second Advisory meeting on Wednesday. Students, in addition to doing some team building, learned about communication. All groups watched this 3 minute video on the difference between empathy and sympathy.

As the end of the month draws near, we will wrap up our focus on citizenship. The definition of citizenship is “We give of our time and abilities to serve others. We uphold liberty and social equality through respect for individual difference and knowledge of the working of our constitutional republic.” During announcements, we have discussed the specific expectations of being a citizen of Arete Prep and the important role that those expectations play in our community of learners.

In the week before fall break, students will take our annual student survey that asks about culture on campus as well as their classroom experience. Students can choose to include their name or not. During that last week of the quarter, students will also receive the template for the student growth plan and will have a chance to discuss what they need to prepare for the week of conferences.

The schedule for conferences will be in the newsletter next week.

I hope to see you all tonight for the homecoming game!

Sincerely,

Julia Gillingham | Headmaster
