Before coming to The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC), my life was unmanageable. I started working when I was 14 at a grocery store in Missouri. I started drinking socially with co-workers and friend in town. We moved from Missouri and I found a new job and l knew I had to stop drinking to get my high school diploma. I am the first in my Family to get a diploma, but over the years my drink had progressed.

     Here now at the ARC, I feel happy again working as a janitor. There are challenges from day to day, that remind me of the days when I worked at the Marriott. There are many differences though too. The biggest being my recovery. I trust my high power to bring out the fullness of goodness out of me. The ARC has helped me achieve a spiritual growth. It is comforting and a privilege to be encouraged and have help with my medical needs. The ARC has helped me move on to a healthier frame of mind and emotions, calming my mind and body into the knowledge of not being alone in my recovery. 

     I now look forward to playing a few games of bowling, chess, and dominoes without the weight of addictions on my shoulders, and maybe even some needlepoint. I would like to close with this thought: "I am hoping God will work in a way I cannot see, but always help us all in our recovery. "
