Firefighters battle two-story house fire in Hollywood
Firefighters battled a two-story house fire in Hollywood
Tuesday evening. The blaze broke out at about shortly after 7 p.m. in the 1200 block of N. Bronson Avenue. No one was home at the time of the fire, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Ornamental vegetation around the home caught on fire but firefighters quickly extinguished it and stopped the flames from spreading to nearby buildings.

L.A. Firefighters Rescue Man Clinging to Tree Above Raging L.A. River Near Griffith Park
Los Angeles Fire Department officials were working
to rescue a man who was clinging to a tree, above the raging Los Angeles River
near Griffith Park Thursday. The man was seen not moving, holding on to a tree, 25 feet from the L.A. River's edge, a quarter of a mile south of Zoo Drive. Video from Sky 5 showed two workers from LAFD's Swift Water Rescue Team aboard an inflatable rescue boat, struggling to maneuver the raging waters to reach the victim. The water below was about 4 feet deep, moving at 15 miles per hour, according to a police scanner.

2 Hollywood Hills Homes Compromised By Too Much Rain?
Two homes in the Hollywood Hills reportedly suffered significant structural damage due to the heavy rains
this past week, officials said. The two homes are located in the 1500 block of North Forest Knoll Drive. A steady debris flow is also likely responsible for the damage. The homes were evacuated because of partial undermining of the soil beneath the houses, says Los Angeles fire Department spokeswoman Amy Bastman.

Hazmat Spill Closes ER At Marina Del Rey Hospital
A damaged pipe caused a liquid oxygen spill which forced the closure of the emergency room
at Cedars-Sinai Marina del Rey Hospital Monday morning. Hazmat crews responded to the spill at around 8:30 a.m. at the hospital located at 4650 Lincoln Blvd., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. A pipe from a 2,000-gallon tank sheared, creating the spill, the fire department said. Most of the oxygen in the tank spilled out. Some patients were transferred by LAFD ambulances to another hospital as a precaution.

Vehicle crashes into apartment building in North Hills
Emergency crews were called to the 8900 block of N. Orion Avenue in North Hills Wednesday evening for
a vehicle that crashed into a two-story apartment building.
The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that the vehicle crash damaged about 6-feet of wall. The LAFD Urban Search and Rescue team responded to the scene to survey the building for any necessary support for stability.

Four children taken to hospital after a vehicle crash in Vermont Knolls
Emergency crews and law enforcement were called to the 8300 block of South Hoover Street in the Vermont Knolls neighborhood on Wednesday for a reported vehicle crash involving children. Los Angeles police say the initial call at about 2:30 p.m. reported
up to five children that had been hit by a vehicle as they were walking in the crosswalk
. The driver stayed at the scene. Four people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, all children, according to a tweet by the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Man Sitting On 101 Freeway Sign Stops Downtown LA Rush Hour Traffic For Nearly 4 Hours
Traffic through downtown Los Angeles ground to a complete stop for hours as authorities tried to
coax a man down from a sign on the Mission Road overpass over the 101 Freeway
. The man was first spotted standing on or near a sign above the southbound freeway lanes after 2 p.m., just as the Thursday evening traffic rush was getting underway. The California Highway Patrol eventually shut down the freeway in both directions to allow firefighters to inflate airbags below the signs, in case he fell.

2 Dead, 4 Injured In Violent Northridge Car Crash
The driver and passenger in a sports coupe were killed
on Saturday in a two-car crash in Northridge that left four other people injured. The crash was reported at 2:08 p.m. in the 17500 block of Parthenia Street, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said. All of the victims were adults, Humphrey said. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and the coupe's driver was hospitalized in grave condition, he said. LAPD said the coupe's driver died a short time later.

Four Hurt When Car Goes Off Freeway in Granada Hills
Four people were hurt when their car went off the Golden State (5) Freeway
in Granada Hills, authorities said Monday. It was reported about 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the 13100 block of North Sepulveda Boulevard, Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Amy Bastman said. The car went off the Golden State Freeway at Roxford Street and crashed into a fence near Sepulveda Boulevard, the California Highway Patrol said.

Tow Truck Ends up on Top of Car in Deadly Collision on 10 Freeway in Downtown L.A.
Authorities are investigating what caused a
fatal collision between a tow truck and a car on the westbound 10 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles
Friday morning. An injury traffic collision was reported about 1:15 a.m. on the San Pedro Street offramp, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Kris Ulibarri said. Arriving officers found a tow truck on top of a Honda, Ulibarri said.

Overturned vehicle causes traffic back-up on westbound 118 Fwy in Pacoima
All westbound lanes of the 118 Freeway were shut down in Pacoima Wednesday night as
firefighters rescued two people trapped in an overturned vehicle
. Authorities said the crash happened around 6:15 p.m. near the San Fernando Road exit as two senior citizens were stuck inside the car. Firefighters were able to safely extract the couple and place them in an ambulance. They were listed in fair condition.

Female Hiker Airlifted To Safety By LAFD
A 19-year-old woman was rescued by officials from the Los Angeles Fire Department on Tuesday, January 29 at 1:25 p.m. after suffering from a medical emergency. The incident transpired at 2984 N Lake Hollywood Drive
. The LAFD conducted a hoist operation for the young hiker
. Upon airlifting her, she was reported to be in fair condition. Fire Station 76, Battalion 5 responded the call.

Quick Actions Save A Young Girl From Drowning
The Board of Fire Commissioners and Los Angeles Fire Department
recognized the quick actions of seven LAFD Firefighters and the parents of a two-year-old girl during a drowning emergency
, giving her a second chance at life. On August 20, 2018 in Boyle Heights, firefighters arrived on-scene to find Sofia Rojas unresponsive next to an above ground pool with her father performing CPR, instructed by LAFD Firefighter and dispatcher Christian Brown. Firefighter Brown calmly and clearly provided life-saving 9-1-1 instructions to her parents, providing a critical link in the chain of survival. During this time, Engine 25 and Rescue Ambulance 25 quickly arrived and continued CPR, delivered IV pharmacological intervention, and transported Sofia to a nearby emergency room. The quick actions of Sofia’s family and the firefighters on-scene proved critical in her rapid and full recovery.

L.A. Fire Departments Donate Fire Apparatus to Sister City in Zambia
Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) Chief Ralph Terrazas joined Her Excellency, the First Lady of the Republic of Zambia, Mrs. Esther Lungu, along with Los Angeles County Fire Department Chief Daryl Osby and local elected officials
to formally donate four fire apparatus and assorted surplus firefighting equipment to Los Angeles’ Sister City Lusaka, Zambia.
This is the first donation of former Los Angeles fire equipment to the continent of Africa.

LA County fire captain killed in Santa Clarita crash remembered as ‘dedicated’ husband, father
The Los Angeles County fire captain who was killed in a crash on the 14 freeway
between his Jeep and a Caltrans sweeper vehicle was mourned by his family and other firefighters Thursday. Captain Michael Shepard had been an L.A. County firefighter since 2006, the department said in a written statement. The 63-year-old is survived by his wife, four sons, two daughters, and seven grandchildren.
