Whitnall Middle School Message
Hello,

What a crazy end to the month of January! Snow Days can be fun, but who would have thought we would end with a snow day and multiple cold days. Because of our days off remember that February 18th is now a student day (this is also below).

We are hoping that by the end of February or early March that our current 6th and 7th grade students will be registering. We will make sure that information is sent home and made available in a variety of ways so we can help eliminate any questions (or as many as possible). Also I will be heading over to our elementary schools to start talking with our current 5th graders as we start the process of getting ready for middle school in September! Registration for our current 5th grade students will most likely be taking place in April.

Also, we have made an addition for our students and parents. Each core grade level has created a link that can be accessed to check on the daily 'work'. A quick view of what is or has taken place during the week. Each core teacher will also be having this link added to our webpage over the next few days. We will be sending these out via IC Messenger at the start of next week on Monday, February 11th.

Stay warm. Enjoy any sun that we get. Have a great month of February!

Yours in learning,

Bob Antholine
Principal WMS

PBIS and CANstruction Hunger Task Force
On Friday, February 8th at our PBIS Assembly we launched our CANstruction competition to support the Hunger Task Force's My Plate initiative. Here is a brief message that was shared from our Student Council:
Student Council is hosting CANstruction. This is the first time we've ever done something like this. It's a different twist to a food drive in which donations will be split among student teams, where they will have to make a picture, or some other sculpture, out of cans and other donated food items. All food after the competition will be donated to Hunger Task Force. Creations will be judged, and part of the prize for the winning team will be to visit Hunger Task Force for a tour and see the next steps in the donation process.

We need plenty of non-perishable food donations to come in.
Feb 11th - 22nd: Two weeks to collect non-perishable food items
Feb 11th: Student teams can apply to enter the competition (10 teams max, 2-4 students per team....first come, first serve)
Feb 25-28: Student teams build their sculptures during Advisory
Friday, March 1st: Judging takes place
We would like to follow Hunger Task Force's MyPlate initiative for donations, so we really need:
* Canned Fruit (100% juice)
* Low to no sugar cereal (Cheerios, Chex, etc.)
* Peanut Butter
But all non-perishable items will be accepted. We need plenty of canned items!
Career Day
Career Day at WMS offers an opportunity for 8th grade students to be exposed to a variety of career specialties through classroom presentations given by professionals. Our 2019 Career Day will be on Friday March 22, 2019 from 9am-12pm. If available our proposal from IS HERE .
WMS Bake Sale to benefit Mud Run
WMS will be hosting the first Inaugural Whitnall Mud Run in May. In order to raise money for the Mud Run, WMS will be having a Bake Sale the week of February 18 - February 22. The Bake Sale will be held before school and after school all week (February 18 - February 22). We are asking for families to donate items for the bake sale that week. Items can be homemade or store bought. Bake sale items should be dropped off in the WMS office.  Please make sure to individually bag items so they're ready to sell for 50 cents each.  Thank you for your support.
