Nurturing Faith Ideas
Nurturing Faith Ideas are weekly suggestions and activities from the Presbytery's Nurture Committee to link worship and home and to nurture faith development in the family. They are intended for all ages and family types. Add one to your bulletin each week or put them in your monthly newsletter. They could also be sent via email or added to a Facebook page. In 2019, they are organized around a common theme each month. Ideas for the entire year can be found
here.
This week, find out from your local food pantry or other organization that provides food to those in need what they really need. Share with your church next Sunday, and plan to collect those items on a designated date.

It is estimated that the average American throws away 25 percent of food and beverages that are purchased. Pay attention to what you toss. What are ways you can avoid getting rid of good food?
February 24
The rate of poverty in the United States grows every year. In 2017, 11.8 percent of households experienced food insecurity. Being food insecure means that at times during the year, these households were unsure of their ability to have enough food to meet the needs of the family. You can help families by donating to your local food pantry year-round.

have a great opportunity at the February 16 Presbytery meeting. Not only do we get to help celebrate the 200th
anniversary of
Kanawha United Presbyterian Church
and
First Presbyterian Church, Charleston
, but we will also have the Rev. Dr. J. Herbert Nelson with us at this meeting. He will be offering his perspectives on the "State of the Church" as well as preaching during worship.

Spring 2019 in various locations
All pastoral leaders are required to complete a Healthy Boundary Training workshop every five years.
All pastoral leaders who have not completed a Healthy Boundary Training workshop after 2014 must attend an event by June 15, 2019. They will be offered in a variety of locations within the Presbytery.

Download this six-week study for $26 from The Thoughtful Christian. Take time to discern your civic responsibilities as Christ's disciple. Adults will explore the ideas of covenant, community and the common good while reflecting on how we each may grow as faithful citizens. Each week includes a Participant Handout and a Leader Guide.

 The PWV Presbyterian Women will hold their annual PW Gathering on March 30 at Saint John XXIII in Charleston. The keynote speaker will be Anita Gutschick, a national speaker and actress who portrays women of the Bible to inspire and breathe life into ancient voices.

he Rev. Dr. Amy Parker has a love of the arts. So much so, she not only has her Master of Divinity degree, but she also went back to seminary 30 years later to get her Doctor of Ministry degree in Arts and Theology.
As the Minister of Education and the Arts at
Village Chapel Presbyterian Church
, Amy is now doing all that she can to inject her passion into the congregational life and surrounding community. Fortunately, the church's pastor, the Rev. Dr. Todd Wright, shares her vision. Their first project came to fruition in early December with an art show and open house at the church.

is the theme of this year's Festival of Faith, a day of learning opportunities, fellowship and worship. Brian McLaren (right) will present the keynote on "
Being Church in a Time of Division." There will also be workshops, a Presbyterian Publishing House bookstore, several mission/ministry partners and more.

March 1-3 at Cedar Lakes Conference Center
This retreat for youth in grades 6-8 and their adult advisors will use images and aspects of gaming to explore who they are as children of God and the resources their faith and faith communities have to offer as guides along the way. Presbytery Youth Council youth will lead the weekend.

ost is $10. Registration deadline is Feb. 21 to allow time to complete the advance assignment, which is not required but is helpful.

This summer's Presbyterian Youth Triennium will be held July 16-20, on the campus of Purdue University in Indiana. The presbytery's delegation will gather the evening of July 15 for community building and preparation before leaving early on July 16.

 The Wesley House, which is a ministry of the United Methodist Church and the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), takes seriously Matthew 25: "For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink..." It seems that all our ministries center around food.

Does your church need a small piano?
Don Springer, a member of Highlawn Presbyterian, St. Albans, is getting rid of a piano because it is no longer being used, and he is offering it to any church that might be interested. It is a spinet piano (a very small upright) with a modern design, in good condition and only a few years old. Contact him at 304-727-7877.

Presbyterian Planning Calendar
is seeking photo submissions for its 2019-2020 edition focusing on congregational vitality, fighting poverty, dismantling racism and other mission activities, as well as your church's unsung heroes.
Submission deadline is Feb. 14.
