ASCE Section Public Relations and Government Relations Training for Dream Big!
Friday, February 17th
Morning Session: 8:30 - 11:30 am
Afternoon Session: 12:00 - 3:00 pm

Please join us for a Public Relations and Government Relations Training session PRIOR to the Dream Big documentary release. There will be 2 sessions plus lunch to choose from. You can attend one or both sessions. The cost is the same for one or both sessions.
 
ASCE's Government Relations staff will present this in-person training session to help amplify the Seattle Section's understanding of how to effectively engage with elected officials in advance of the section's legislative advocacy day on March 17. 
 
And ASCE's Media Relations staff will present on public relations, covering how to work with the media, how to make section events and reports media-worthy, and how to handle tough interview questions.

K-12 Outreach - "Engineer It!"

"Engineer It!" Weekend 
@ the Pacific Science Center

This is a three day science festival to kick off engineers week and the premiere of "Dream Big".  ASCE would like to have a booth for all three days if we have enough volunteer capacity.  



If you're interested in volunteering for "Engineer It!" weekend, please send  Brad Strandquist   at  BStrandquist@mka.com   an e-mail with the day and time (morning or afternoon) that you're available to volunteer. 

Puget Sound Chapter of ASHRAE Networking Event

The Puget Sound Chapter of ASHRAE (American Socity of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) is hosting an Engineering Week networking event at Arup next Wednesday.

K-12 Outreach - STEM Fair

Thursday, February 23rd - 5:00 - 7:30 pm

STEM Exploration Night is an opportunity for all K-12 Federal Way Public Schools scholars and their families to learn about STEM career opportunities in our region, and identify a pathway to success in a STEM career. 
 
ASCE will host a booth where students, parents, and teachers can interact with engineers to learn more about civil engineering. We are looking for civil/structural engineers to volunteer their time to interact with the guest and generate excitement about our field. More information can be found at  STEM Fair!.

February Community Service Event

Fare Start provides about 1,000 meals to homeless shelters every day of the year.  Team up with the younger members to prepare food at Fare Start's kitchen. Lunch is included!

Annual YMF Ski Retreat
February 24th - 26th
Mt. Hood, Oregon 

We will join the Portland, Bellingham, and Tacoma ASCE YMFs at Mt. Hood for our annual Ski Retreat at the end of the month!

K-12 Outreach - S.T.E.A.M. Night

Thursday, March 2nd - 6:00 - 7:30 pm
Sawyer Woods Elementary School

Sawyer Woods Elementary, a K-6 school in the Kent School District, is planning a S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) Night for our students and families to engage them in the excitement and learning opportunities science, technology, engineering, art and math have to offer.  We hope to spark their creativity for participation in our S.T.E.A.M. Fair in April.
 
Volunteers are needed to participate at the event which will include demonstrations and activities for students and families (approximately 200+ are expected). There will be various activities and booths, so students will be moving through 'stations' during the event.
