PIECES OF THE ROCK

Living in the Son
Galatians 2:20
September 21, 2018

"But be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves."
James 1:22

Dear Parents,
Last week's Pieces of The Rock brings Daniel Whitney to mind. Never heard of him? Let me give you a hint. Mr. Whitney has a familiar catchphrase: "Git-R-Done!" Right - Larry the Cable Guy.
While Larry's catchphrase might not pass muster with Mrs. Rodenbeck's Language Arts classes, it does have something to say to us Christians.  Sharing our faith by caring for those in need is core to the Christian faith.
Consider the Ehle kids, Lexy and Hunter (now CLHS juniors) and Colton (now an eighth grader.) A few years ago, they saw a need among the homeless in Fort Wayne and hooked up with Socktober, a national effort to match socks with the homeless. How successful has it been? Last year we sent over 8,000 pairs of socks to the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission.
Then consider fifth grader Grace Reith. Last year, Grace saw the need for a Buddy Bench for our playground. It's a bench where kids in need of a friend can go to find one. All you have to do to get a Buddy Bench is collect 400 pounds of bottle caps. Wow! How successful was Grace's effort? We've heard we collected enough caps for TWO benches.
And consider, among others, Eve Domres, Brynn Campbell, Odie Linker, Hannah Stambaugh, Becca Flaningan, Carly Bradtmueller, Adalynne Ripke, Ruby Chapman and Emalynn Aldrich, who donated hair to be made into wigs for cancer patients. (Please let me know if your child has done this also.)
These kids Got-R-Done! It's inspiring to see how God challenged them, then blessed their efforts. Let Him challenge you, too, and then move forward

Living in the Son!
Soli Deo Gloria!

New This Week
Cap Collection Capped!
As noted above, our Buddy Bench cap collection has been more than successful, so we no longer need bottle caps. Thanks for your support!
Rock Your School!
Were our kids surprised or what? First the red carpet was laid out for them as they came into school. Then they enjoyed a lip-sync concert by our really cool faculty rock band (can you p ick out your kids' teachers in the picture?) Next it was off to Chapel and a message about comfort dogs from Lutheran Church Charities, Chicago, IL, followed by an opportunity to pet one of the dogs they brought along.  Later in the afternoon Chapel families gathered again for a S.T.E.M. (science, technology and mathematics) project.  They took the junk you sent in with no idea why and made their own musical instruments.  This surprise day was part of Rock  your School Day, a world-wide education celebration held on September 20 with the goal of creating an outside-the-box educational experience.  We thank our faculty for putting this experience together for our students!
Tourney Time!

It's hard to believe our fall sports season is about to wrap up. LSAA tournaments begin next week. Don't miss these games:

Varsity Volleyball tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. vs. Woodburn Lutheran in our gym.

Varsity Soccer on Monday at 5:45 p.m. vs. Central Lutheran at Kreager Park.
