DRAGON TALES
SEPTEMBER 21, 2018
Dear St. George Families,
I talked to our teachers and staff at the beginning of the year telling them that working at
St. George is more than a job, it is a vocation, that we have been called to. That we are all
catechists, and a part of our job is to work in concert with our school families to educate
and be examples to our student of our Catholic faith. Pope Francis advises us, "BE
catechists, don't work as catechists." He makes clear that it's not solely about what we
do; it's about who we are. "Being a catechist is a vocation." As catechists, we deserve the
support and formation to BE the person God is calling us to be. Every catechist is a
"leader of light" grounded in faith, energized by hope, and consumed by the love for
those we serve, and for the God who has called us to serve. As a Catholic School we are
called to reinforce the vocational role of catechists, emphasizing our mission as we form
cultures of faith, hope, and love within our school. Every Principal, teacher, staff member
in our school will share leadership in building the school's learning culture, and "be on
fire" to ensure students' success. Our catholic school is a "home of light and joy" in the
darkness of our world." Let us all BE the hands of Christ...let's "be on fire" when we teach
and set that positive example...let us be that light of joy and hope...let's love our
neighbors, lead our youth, and build a culture of goodness, steeped in Catholic
values...let it begin with you and me.
God bless,
Jack Nelson
