Salary Increase for All Employees!

We are pleased to share that the EMS ISD Board of Education approved a pay raise for all employees as part of the 2018-2019 budget!

Our trustees approved a 2 percent increase for all non-teaching staff. For teachers, the district reviewed and restructured the Teacher Pay Scale to keep teaching salaries competitive with area school districts and to attract and retain high-quality teachers. The restructuring includes a minimum 2% adjustment on each pay step of the Teacher Pay Scale. In some cases, the adjustment is higher in order to reflect market conditions.

The Board is committed to the administration reviewing salaries each year to ensure that district compensation remains competitive with area markets. This allows us to attract the best and the brightest while also honoring the experience and dedication of our current employees.

As part of the annual salary review, district administrators analyze market conditions, compare pay scales with area districts, and consider scope of work and years of experience. We work diligently within the current financial conditions and available budget to prioritize salaries and support our employees.

The 2018-2019 salary raises are effective from the first day of your 2018-2019 contract or work calendar.  If you have questions or concerns about your salary information, please complete the  Compensation Concern Worksheet  and send a copy to the Payroll Department. Because We Care Campaign

We are excited to announce the Because We Care employee giving campaign is back! The campaign runs now through October 25. Be on the lookout for information from your Campus Care Captains as they spread the word and pass out pledge cards. Donations can be made by check, cash, or payroll deduction.

All donated funds will be used for innovative teaching grants and employee scholarships. Your gift provides teachers with opportunities to reach students in new and exciting ways, engage and challenge them, and develop a love of learning. Employees supporting employees make amazing things happen.

The campaign will close with a Finale Celebration on November 8 for everyone contributing $30 or more. Anyone donating $40 or more will be entered into a drawing for fabulous prizes sponsored by donors and local businesses. All prizes will be drawn LIVE. Donate $90 or more, and you will be entered into the drawing three times. The deadline for pledge cards to be entered into the drawing is October 25 at 4:30 pm.

About Our People
Saginaw teachers rewarded with grants from EMS Education Foundation for innovative teaching

The Education Foundation awarded teaching grants this week to two deserving teachers at Saginaw High School. Each year, teachers have the opportunity to apply for educational grants to equip their classrooms and instruction with the tools needed to maximize quality of education.

Denise Bennett, environmental science teacher
Denise Bennett received $878 for her Aquaponics and Towering Garden initiative. Bennett has been able to purchase a garden towering system and materials needed to make a small-space growing system. Students will see how food production in a small space is something they can do at home and have access to an instant meal/snack when food growth is complete.

Christopher Brown, chemistry teacher
Christopher Brown received $758.88 for his Flipped Classroom initiative. Brown has been able to purchase 12 tablets for his flipped chemistry class. Students use the tablets to watch prerecorded lectures or short videos that help them learn new material. This allows students to move through the class learning objectives at their own pace. Once a student has mastered a learning objective, he/she can move on to the next one. The tablets also free up the teacher to provide in-class support to students who are struggling academically by keeping other students who do not need as much help engaged and learning.
