HANDS-ON LEARNING
SOUTHERN AZ CONSTRUCTION & CAREER DAYS
More than 300 Career and Technical Education Students and Teachers from throughout Tucson Unified participated in the Southern Arizona Construction and Career Days. The event is designed to:  "provide career exploration for their students within the construction industry, including trades, infrastructure, utilities, engineering, design and architecture and more." Communications Media students from Pueblo High documented the event with photos and video.

TUCSON CHILDREN'S MUSEUM HOSTS TRANSPORTATION EVENT
Saturday November 2nd,  a bucket truck from Tucson Electric Power, a pony, a double-decker bus and a cement truck were all at the Tucson Children's Museum for the Zoom Zoom event. Demonstrations by 7 Tucson Unified Automotive Teachers for children of all ages included virtual reality and even a chance to get behind the wheel of a solar go kart.

As TUSD CTE looks to partner with Starbucks for future internships, Catalina High School's Culinary students and their Teacher, Michael Gradowski were called upon to cater a Starbuck's Manager's meeting. Who knows? The Barista behind your next Mocha Grande Soy Latte might be be a Catalina Trojan.

HOSA BIOTECH WARRIORS WALK TO INCREASE AWARENESS

Pueblo HS Biotech students participated in the Out of the Darkness Suicide Awareness Walk. 
Next on their agenda is the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Walk April 7, 2018

Tucson High Magnet School HOSA students volunteered at the Produce on Wheels Without Waste  
(P.O.W.W.O.W.) event.
 Produce is re-distributed to communities, to promote affordable nutritious eating. For a $10 contribution, you can shop for up to 60 lbs. of fresh, nutritious, rescued produce.

Automotive Technology students and Advisor, Don Zell volunteered at the Tucson
Classics Rotary Car Show. They were the only automotive program in the county
to have auto students at the event. According to Zell, "Everybody loved our club shirts also.
I feel we represented TUSD auto very well.
Students also set up a display table and showed
little kids at Little Anthony's car show how to wire
some electrical boards. Many great comments from
parents and kids."

SANTA RITA SPROUTS' SOAP

Josh Ruddick, CTE Agribusiness Teacher  at Santa Rita High School said  " Santa Rita Sprouts is a student-run business, enabled in part  through an agreement with Real World Scholars." 
Santa Rita Sprouts' current  service-learning project includes  donating student-made-soap  to relief efforts for the victims of Hurricane Harvey. 
 
Santa Rita Sprouts invites everyone  to join their effort by collecting toiletries for donation to hurricane  victims.  The effort has been extended to the end of the quarter.

VALLEY FEVER AWARENESS GOES VIRAL
Students from Pueblo High Bioscience Teacher Andrew Lettes and Art Teacher Nallely Aguayo collaborated to produce a Valley Fever awareness campaign.  Students created posters and buttons to help spread the word. Their work was showcased on the Valley Fever Center for Excellence Facebook page.

HONORING ACCOMPLISHMENTS
JA TEACHERS OF THE YEAR

Tucson High Magnet School Business teachers Mona Rutherford and Melissa Pippen were recognized by the Southern Arizona Junior Achievement as Teachers of the Year.
 
OUTSTANDING CHOLLA FCCLA  STUDENT

Bryanda Pazos, Cholla High  was selected as  Arizona's FCCLA Member of the Month.   According to Advisor Gloria Nelson, "Bryanda is the Cholla HS chapter president this year and is definitely taking her leadership role seriously and productively."  She will be recognized during the 2018 AZ Annual FCCLA Leadership Conference at Westin La Paloma.

GRAPHIC ARTS STUDENTS SHINE

October 4, the Pima County School Superintendent's Office sponsored the Fall 2017 Bi Annual Student Art Show. This highlighted the artwork of High School Graphic Arts students. Students from Sabino High and Tucson High Magnet School were recognized for their efforts.

BIO SCIENCE STUDENTS SHADOW  SURGEONS & E NGINEERS
Saturday December 16th, eight  Pueblo High Bioscience students  interested in careers in orthopaedics or engineering participated in hands-on "mock surgical" exercises and heard lectures from women surgeons and engineers.
The Perry Initiative inspires young women to be leaders in Orthopaedic Surgery and Engineering by partnering with medical centers, universities & high schools nationwide.
