February 2019

What began as a one-day event in 1941, has grown into a month-long national observance focused on raising awareness about children's oral health. National Children's Dental Health Month is a program of the American Dental Association (ADA), which has promoted the importance of developing good oral health habits early to millions of people across the country.

Practicing daily dental health promotes a lifetime of positive impact across all areas of wellness. Below are dental care tips for your children that every family should be aware of, not just in February, but all year long.
  • Don't let your baby fall asleep with their bottle - it can increase the likelihood of tooth decay.
  • Add toothbrushing to your daily routine with the eruption of your child's first tooth.
  • Teach your children to floss their teeth when they start to fit closely together.
  • Schedule your children's first dental appointment no later than their first birthday.
  • Wean children off the pacifier before age three.
  • No sharing allowed. Everyone in your family should have their own toothbrush.
  • Avoid sugary snacks.
  • Discuss dental sealants with your dentist.
