Wellness and Self-Care
With the stressors of midterms and daily life, it is important to find ways to take care of your mind and body. Below, find information on events and resources that can provide you with the tools to practice self-care.
CAPS Presents
Mindfulness for Wellbeing:
Given the national context, it makes sense to worry about uncertainties of the future. Come to learn ways to keep coming back to the present; to let go of what is not within our control; to shift your thoughts and emotions.

Facilitated by Dr.Ellen J. Lin

Participants can also join online via zoom.

Every Tuesday, from 2-4pm students can drop in or sign-up to consult with Ellen J. Lin. Consultations are private and confidential and students will not have to fill out an intake prior to meeting with Ellen.

Health and Wellness Week

In collaboration with SJSU's Campus Wellness, and its Healthy Campus 2020 Initiative, the College of Health and Human Sciences is currently planning its 2 nd  Annual Health and Wellness Week. The 2018 event will be held from:

October 22 nd  through the 26 th  
and will highlight CHHS' strong commitment to creating a culture of wellness on campus and throughout the community.

Free Legal Information
On  Saturday, October 27th,  the Katharine and George Alexander Community Law Center, and the La Raza Student Association are sponsoring a  free legal information clinic

We will have attorneys specializing in Immigration Law, Workers’ Rights, Consumer Protection Law and Tenants' Rights. 

Anyone looking for free legal information in any of these areas is encouraged to call

Leadership Today applications for 2019 are open! Please invite your students to apply.

Leadership Today  is a 3-day immersion retreat focused on diversity, social justice, and cross-cultural communication. We are looking to provide an opportunity for those who are interested in infusing social justice into their personal, educational, and professional lives. There is no cost to attend the retreat. 

This year the retreat will be held at Koinonia Conference Grounds in Corralitos, CA.

Peer Connections' tutors enhance students’ individual learning in particular courses. Tutoring is FREE for SJSU students. Classic tutors offer appointments and drop-in tutoring for a wide variety of subjects as well as undergraduate and graduate student writing.

2019 Golden Door Scholars
This year, Golden Door Scholars is open to DACA recipients nationwide! Strong preference will be given to applicants who plan to concentrate their studies in one of the following areas (or one similar): Engineering, Computer Science, Technology, or Math.

Scholarship recipients will receive funding to support tuition, room and board for a four-year degree at Golden Door partner schools and schools offering in-state tuition to students with DACA, beginning Fall 2019. Golden Door Scholars will also have access to mentors, assistance in pursuing internships and other career-building opportunities.

Latinos in Technology Scholarship
In order to be eligible to apply for the scholarship you must be a current college student entering their junior or senior year in the 2019 academic school year and planning to enroll on a full-time or part-time basis. Preference will be given to full-time and rising junior students. You may be a United States legal residents and a student who has obtained Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Note: A.B. 540 students who are also DACA recipients are eligible to apply

Up to $30,000 (paid over three years, provided renewal eligibility requirements are met)

Applicants must be in a Science, technology, engineering, math (STEM)-related field.

The application deadline is December 13, 2018.

2019 Ford Foundation
Pre-Doctoral Fellowship
The Ford Foundation is committed to increasing the diversity of the country’s college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, to maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students. Their Pre-Doctoral fellowship opportunity offers an annual stipend of $24,000, expenses paid to attend at least one Conference of Ford Fellows, as well as access to Ford Fellow Regional Liaisons, a network of former Ford Fellows who have volunteered to provide mentoring and support to current fellows.
