Influenza - Get Immunized & Immunize Your Patients

One of the unforeseen challenges resulting from the technological advances in medicine is the blurring of death and dying. As physicians and community leaders, we need to carefully think about our role in providing care to patients at the end of life. What are our professional duties to the patients and their families? How do we determine when to stop pursuing cure instead of care when advanced technology may offer opportunities to ward off the inevitable, albeit brief? We listen to the patient.    To Read More CLICK HERE

LMS Featured Physician: Sandra Shuffett , MD
Why did you become a physician?

I became a doctor to help people. In high school I joined the Medical Explorers Post of the Boy Scouts of America. The more I volunteered the more driven I became to get good grades and become a physician. I believe that my volunteerism now contributes to my growth as a physician and a person. With so many ways to contribute I don't feel burnt out but invigorated and challenged. I want to make a difference to better the lives of Kentuckians.

2018 LMS Bourbon Chase Team: A Lot Faster Than We Thought
By Chris Hickey, LMS EVP/CEO
Who knew? We didn't realize that we had recruited so much athletic talent. The Lexington Medical Society started participating in this athletic challenge in 2017 to promote health, fitness, and fun. The 2018 version of our team consisted of one active physician, one resident physician, six medical students, 3 physical therapy students, and one PhD candidate. Apparently, the discipline and drive that pushes them intellectually carries over into their athletic ability. The team finished the 202-mile course in 28 hours, 39 seconds which was 10 th place out of 247 open mixed (male/female) team category and 45 th of 437 teams overall. That translate into a top 4% finish in our category and top 10% overall.
