News from the Front Office

The WAWM RCS Department has been working very hard on our upcoming Winter-Spring guide! We are excited to provide our community with our most popular classes and exciting new activities! Our guide will highlight all of our NEW classes, so flip through and find something that sparks your interest! Make sure to keep a lookout for our Winter-Spring guide mailed to your house at the end of November. But don't wait to get involved. We still have many fall sessions that are available to enroll in!


Office hours update!,   E ffective Friday, November 2nd, our new office hours are: Monday - Thursday from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm and Fridays from 8 am - 4 pm. You are welcome to use the secure drop box on the south side of our building or go online at  www.wawmrec.com to register for classes after hours! 
 
Non School Day Camps  
In the month of November WAWM RCS Department will offer 2 Non School Day Camps at a cost of $29 per camp. The first will be held on November 6th and will feature a field trip to Fun Timez. The second camp will be held on November 21. This day will be our Thanksgiving Jamboree. Both camps will be held at Horace Mann Elementary. Please sign up today as space for these camps is limited.

Dance 
Dance Classes have started and will now go through until March when our recital is held.

Chicago Shopping Trip
Come see the holiday sights that Chicago has to offer along the Magnificent Mile. If you don't wish to shop, the theatre district is not far from our drop-off point so you can see a show or you can hop on a train and travel to the Museum of Science and Industry and see their exhibits.
A continental breakfast will be served at 7:30 am. The trip departs from Nathan Hale Commons (West Entrance) at 8 am and departs Chicago at 8 pm arriving at Nathan Hale at approximately 9:30 pm. Transportation is by deluxe motor coach.

Early Childhood
Preschool Programs

Did your child just turn 3 and now need someplace to help get them ready for school?  We have an awesome preschool program offered by the WAWM RCS Dept. for your child. Classes meet from 9:00 am - 11:30 am and a calendar of which dates the children have off will be given at class.

Option 1, One day a week:  You could sign your child up for either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday and they would then come one day a week with the curriculum the same each of those days.  A new session begins Monday 11/5 and goes through 12/19. Then in January there is another sign up for Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Cost for the 11/5 - 12/19 session is $75 residents and $113 non residents.  

Option 2, Twice a week:  You could sign your child up for either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday and then also sign them up for Thursdays and your child could come twice a week.  Thursdays curriculum is different from the other days. The cost of the remainder of Thursdays and the other day would be discussed with you by the WAWM RCS Dept. Program Manager, Linda Gritzmacher at 604-4911.

Other Early Childhood Classes
Parents drive on over to the WAWM RCS Dept. and get your little ones signed up for one of our many early childhood offerings.   Classes are going on now and new ones will be beginning in November.

Mushy Gushy Icky Sticky Fun, Pint Size Picassos, Bitty Soccer, Start Smart Basketball, Watch Me Run, Volley Tots, and Volley Kids

Don't forget also on Fridays from 9:30 - 10:30 am we have Mini Marvels. This is an hour long class that has play time, story time, craft time, and lots of fun.  Different theme each week so you can sign up for one or two or as many as you want. Intermediate School Trivia Night
Are you a smarty pants? Come alone or with a group of friends for our first Trivia Night of the year. Teams will compete in knowledgeable categories such as history, geography, current events, math, brain teasers and of course pop culture among others to earn the most points for the evening. Prizes will be awarded for the highest score. Register as an individual and teams will be formed at Trivia Night. Join us for laughs, knowledge and a good time!

Turkey Day

Looking to kick off your Thanksgiving with a thrill? The RCS Dept.
will be hosting a trip to Lasertag Adventure in Waukesha for an
afternoon of UNLIMITED lasertag, trampoline dodgeball and bowling.
Arcade games are available at an additional cost. A pizza lunch is also
included. We will spend the rest of the day having organized gym
activities, open gym and other structured activities to keep everyone
entertained.

Do you have an interest in Anime? Join Nick Katzfey , graphic artist and cartoonist, in  learning how to draw manga-style in our multi-part workshop. You'll learn to draw from the ground up including the basics of character drawing, character design, and all sorts of fun tricks to help you draw cool characters! You'll also learn interesting ways to put together your own comics - characters, plot lines and more! Experienced artists and novices are all welcome. Bring along something to draw with and join the fun!

American Red Cross Babysitting
Babysitting is one of the most important jobs a young person will ever have. Babysitting can be  a lot of fun but the responsibility of it should never be taken lightly. This course is open to boys and girls 10 years and above and will include instruction based around four themes: Leadership, Safety and Safe Play, Basic Care and First Aid (including rescue breathing). Each participant
should bring paper, pencil, cabbage patch size doll, snack and drink to class.

Adult Exercise 
Zumba Fitness Halloween Bash was held on Friday, October 12th.  All money raised will go towards the WA-WM School District Sodexo Backpack program.  Thank you to Dina Sharafinski and Jill Farina for making this another successful event and raising nearly $2000.00 for the program.  Thank you to all the instructors and participants that came from all over the state and participated. A WONDERFUL EVENT!   

Thriller Workshop was also held in October led by instructor Dana Peck. This event took place on October 27th and participants learned the original choreography from Thriller.  Zombies came from all over and by the end of the workshop performed the full dance to "THRILLER".


Many of our adult exercise classes still have openings.  Please contact our office if interested in a class and we can prorate the class for you if you want to join.  Winter is here and time to get indoors with some friends and take an exercise class.



Adult Sports
Do you need to knock some of the rust off from your shot? Join us for our Winter Men's Basketball Leagues.  Team registration is now open for all nights. This is a 10 week season starting in early December. We have openings Monday through Thursday.  Registration is first come first served. Are you looking to make some extra money for the holidays? How about getting some exercise while getting paid? If you have experience in officiating we are looking for you. The Basketball and Volleyball seasons are upon us and we are looking for experienced or WIAA certified officials for the season. Games are Monday through Thursday evenings starting at 630pm. Aikido
14 Years & Up
Aikido is one of the best kept secrets in martial arts. This Japanese art of self-defense  employs locks, throws, and holds utilizing the principle of nonresistance to cause an  opponent's momentum to work against them. Join Matthew Fanning , a district educator and  a member of the Midwest Tomiki Aikido Yudanshakai, in learning the proper techniques of Aikido. There will be tumbling involved. Similar to other martial arts programs, Aikido is a ranking system and students can earn rank as they study this style of martial arts.
