Friends,

We’re excited to share the news with you.

We officially announced that effective January 1, 2021, the Allen County SPCA and H.O.P.E. for Animals will merge as a single, nonprofit entity. While the organizations will continue to work out of both locations, the new joint entity will use the IRC 501(c)(3) charitable exemption and corporate structure of the SPCA.

We found a significant overlap in our missions and our audiences, yet very little overlap in our programs and services. With our efforts and operations truly integrated, we feel we can be an even more positive force for animal welfare in northeastern Indiana.

The Allen County SPCA, founded in 1956, is Fort Wayne’s only nonprofit animal shelter. Since inception, it has served more than 60,000 animals and their owners. In the last decade, Allen County SPCA’s adoption rates have quintupled. Services for underprivileged pet owners were added in 2015, and the organization now provides a myriad of comprehensive initiatives and assistance programs for pets and their people.

Founded in 2008, H.O.P.E. for Animals has altered more than 100,000 cats and dogs, resulting in a 70% reduction of euthanasia in our area. Originally structured as an animal rescue organization, in 2010 the agency refocused to serve solely as a spay/neuter/wellness clinic, and 2020 marks its ten-year anniversary as the region’s only low-cost clinic of its kind. In addition, H.O.P.E. for Animals is crucial to the community cat program, operated collaboratively with Allen County SPCA and Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control.

We think of our two organizations as a “bonded pair.” We’ve grown to serve this community together—it’s our home. We look forward to continuing our services, and commit to growing to make an even more positive impact. Our capacity to do good work together is enormous.
We ARE making a difference in the community!

At  H.O.P.E. for Animals   it is our MISSION to eliminate the preventable euthanasia of companion animals and community cats by providing
high-quality low-cost spay/neuter and wellness services, by supporting rescue and by promoting responsible pet ownership.

How We Help Pets & People In Need
" The staff is awesome! They did our newfie Maxx's neutering and the staff are very caring! Special thanks to Caitlin Lothamer who has been so extremely patient and helpful with our questions. They also treated our great pyrenees puppy Gunner for his first wellness visit and worming. Can't say enough good things about the entire team! "

Employee Spotlight: Cindy
Cindy is our Office Administrator here at H.O.P.E. for Animals! She has been with H.O.P.E. for 4 years and we LOVE having her smiling face here in the clinic!

Cindy's job comes with a lot of multitasking, which she is thankfully a pro at. She handles the clerical side of our clinic. Cindy always steps in to help during surgery drop-off and pick-up, so you may have interacted with her at some point if you have visited us for your pet's spay/neuter! Staff describe Cindy as being very knowledgeable, a great teacher and having a caring and compassionate heart for both the staff, clients and the pets they love! Cindy's smile and laugh are contagious and will certainly brighten your day!

At home, Cindy has 5 pets, one dog - Penny and 4 cats: Davey, Pumpkin, Odie and Lulu. Like the rest of us, Cindy is a HUGE animal lover. She loves both cats and dogs equally, but her soft spot is for Golden Retrievers.

When Cindy is not working you can find her taking random trips with her friends! She loves to spend time exploring the world we live in, even if it's just traveling to a Michigan beach and enjoying the sunshine! She also loves supporting her children in their extra curricular activities, especially when it comes to Volleyball. She is their number one fan! We LOVE having Cindy as a part of the H.O.P.E. team and there is never a dull day when she is around! Thank you for being PAWsome Cindy!
