Goodies with Grandparents

Our TK-5th grade students shared talent through song and motion to show how much they love and appreciate their grandparents.

Thank you grandparents for being active participants in your grand child/ren's life. YOU are appreciated!

Parent and Student Safety and Security Meeting

Last night, EAA Administration shared the schools’ policies and procedures for student safety with the EAA families in attendance at the Safety and Security Meeting. Topics of discussion included:

Requirements for all volunteers with the desire to serve on campus and field trips
Morning and afternoon pick-up and drop-off procedures
Hours of supervision for all students:
o K-8 as per posted HomeStretch schedule
o HS until 5 pm M-TH and 3 pm on Fri
o When there are no after school activities (such as athletics and music), HS students still on campus at 6 pm will be sent to HomeStretch and charged the after-hour rate of $1/minute

Administration listened to suggestions that could make our campus even safer. Those suggestions were noted and will be shared with the Faculty and Safety Committee.

One suggestion that was implemented this morning was having TK-8 students, who arrive for HomeStretch before 7:50 a.m., enter HomeStretch from the outside gate. The front doors of the school will remain locked until Mrs. Fowler opens them at 7:50 a.m. High school students coming early for first period classes should use the high school entrance upstairs. Also, the HomeStretch interior hallway door will be locked at 4:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Parents must enter through the outside gated entrance to sign out their child/ren.

EAA takes security very seriously and strives to ensure the safety of each student.

EAA student leaders attend Pacific Union Leadership conference at Leoni Meadows

The Pacific Union, Pacific Union College and La Sierra University help subsidize the leadership camp at Leoni Meadows to prepare and equip student leaders for the upcoming school year. Leadership camp is a highlight of the school year for these students. Each year EAA students (grades 8-12) vote to elect students to be leaders for the upcoming school year.

The following officers are selected for this annual leadership conference:

Religious VP - Rebecca Perrington

Social VP - Monique Johnson

Senior Class President - Emely Gonzalez

Junior Class President = Danyah Morales

Books Bridge Boundaries

Can you imagine coming to a new country and having to not only learn to speak a new language, but to be taught all of your class instruction in that new language? This is just what EAA’s International (ESL) students face when they make the decision to study in the US. While most of them have received instruction in English while in school in their home country, it does not fully prepare them for the way a native English- speaker uses this language. The pronunciation of the words, the lift of the voice for a question, the inconsistencies of the English language…these are things that those born in the US take for granted and are part of daily conversation.

This year, EAA is beginning a new program that we believe will help the International students become better English speakers and will give them an opportunity to connect with other students at EAA who are learning to read English…the Kindergarteners. With the help of Mrs. Henkes, Mrs. Hancock and

Mrs. Zimmerman, the ESL students visit the school library, select a book appropriate for the Kindergarten grade level, practice reading and understanding the content of the book and then meet with their Kindergarten buddy to read the book together.

The two groups met for the first time last week and it was wonderful to see the connection between the students. It is hoped that not only will the English language be improved for both groups, but that friendships will develop and grow throughout the year.
