Pre-Convention Gathering to Focus on Baptismal Ministry
Our third Pre-Convention Gathering topic is " Following God's Call: From Church Chores to Ministry."  How can our church communities cultivate and support ongoing vocational discernment for brand new and long-time leaders? How can we cultivate spiritual practices that sustain each person's baptismal ministry inside and outside the walls of our churches?

Join us for a morning of learning, discussion, and discernment about these questions.  The event is free, and lunch will be provided.  Learn more here.

NEWS AND EVENTS IN AND BEYOND OUR DIOCESE
Sustainable Development Goals grants are available

This year, your commission has responded to the emergency request from the American Friends of the Diocese of Jerusalem for help for the Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza. The hospital was overwhelmed during the border skirmishes with Israel with injured of all ages and walks of life while access to equipment and supplies was curtailed. We have sent $1,000 out of this year's funds to support the life saving efforts of this hospital.

The remainder of our funds are available for projects that support one or more of the above goals for the development of locally sustainable projects. We are inviting our congregations to consider applying  for grants supporting projects or programs overseas that meet one or more of these goals. We are particularly interested in ways partnerships and projects are being developed in cooperation with and supporting local efforts.

Download the  grant application; the deadline to apply is Sept. 20.

News from the wider Church

Episcopal Church
Presiding Bishop Michael Curry's statement on Administration's 2019 refugee admissions ceiling:  The Episcopal Church is gravely disappointed by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's announcement yesterday that the Administration has set the refugee admissions ceiling for next year at 30,000. This is the lowest ceiling in the history of our country and is one more effort to pull the U.S. back from our leadership in addressing humanitarian crises. Further, the retreat from refugee resettlement flies in the face of our nation's history of being a place of refuge to persecuted persons. The Episcopal Church, through the ministry of Episcopal Migration Ministries, is committed to welcome for all. Read more here .
