 Turkish Amputee National Soccer Team
Silver Medalists in World Cup 2018!
TASC congratulates the Turkish National Amputee Soccer Team for winning the silver medal in the 2018 World Cup in San Juan de Los Lagos, Mexico. Angola placed first, Brazil third and Mexico fourth. The Turkish Nationals lost 4-5 in penalties after drawing 0-0 with Angola in regulation time. The Turkish Nationals beat hosts Mexico 4-0 in the semifinals, Russia 5-1 in the quarterfinals, and Ireland 4-0, USA 5-1, Kenya 4-1, and Liberia 3-0 in group qualifiers. Turkish Ambassador to Mexico, Timur Soylemez, attended the championship match, tweeting,“Unforgettable — these brave hearts are an inspiration to millions of disabled persons around the world and send an important lesson on humanity to everyone.”

The Turkish Sports Ministry and private clubs jointly run an advanced program that provides greater sports access to the disabled. In the European Cup 2017, Turkey defeated England 1-0 for the continental championship. In World Cup 2014, Turkey placed third, behind Champions Russia and runners-up Angola. In World Cup 2012, Turkey again placed third behind Champions Uzbekistan and Russia. In World Cup 2010, Turkey again placed third, behind Champions Uzbekistan and Runners-Up Argentina.
