LMVSC Correction to Newsletter re 5th Grade Girls Travel Basketball Tryouts

In the October Basketball Newsletter emailed to you yesterday on October 11, 2018, we incorrectly stated the location of the 5th grade girls travel basketball tryouts for tonight, October 12th.  Those tryouts will take place at BUSH HILL ES!!

We apologize for the inconvenience caused.

LMVSC Registration is Open!

Registration for our Winter 2018-19 Recreational Basketball Program is open!  You can register your player here.  Information about our recreational program is as follows:

  • Practices will begin the first part of December.
  • Games will begin January 5, 2019.
  • Teams practice once a week.  Time/date/location of that practice will be based upon the coach's indicated preferences.  Regular season games are played on Saturdays.  Divisions with an odd number of teams,  may have games on Sundays.
  • Players are placed based on the schools they attend, the neighborhoods where they live, and requests.  A greater importance is placed on keeping players with their classmates and friends in the neighborhood.  We do our best to honor requests, however we do not guarantee placements.  Players are placed according to date of registration. You are more likely to be placed with schoolmates and neighborhood friends and/or have your request honored if you register EARLY!
  • We do allow travel basketball players to play in our recreational league, however there may be no more than ONE travel player per team.
  • Teams are generally limited to 8 players in the B, C and D divisions, while the A, AA and AAA teams may have up to ten.
  • Although we have not yet been issued permits for the Winter season, practices will take place throughout the Franconia, Kingstowne, Virginia Hills and Mount Vernon areas.  Games have historically taken place at Mark Twain MS, Franconia ES, Rose Hill ES, Cameron ES, Bush Hill ES and Hayfield ES.  Considering the growth of the LMVSC Basektball program, gyms could extend further East.
  • We will be looking for coaches and player directors for this upcoming season.  Please register to volunteer when registering your player.  If you have questions about these important positions, feel free to contact Annemarie McGavin at [email protected].
LMVSC Mini-Dribblers is Back!
Like last winter, we will be running our Mini-Dribblers program!  Riley Barrows is back to introduce your youngster to basketball!

Mini-Dribblers is a developmental program for players 5-6 years of age. The program introduces 5 and 6-year-olds to basketball related fundamental skills, which takes into consideration specific motor skill development in a noncompetitive environment.

Players MUST be 5 years old as of the first session. LMVSC "Mini Dribblers" U5-U6 will meet Saturday mornings at a local elementary school.
