Help is needed for Mum Delivery Day on October 1st. Please consider signing up to help with a shift ( even if for an hour).

IMPORTANT SAFETY ISSUE

Please do NOT pull in the circle by the front door of school at any time during school hours. This is for the safety of our students! You will need to park in the parking lot and walk over to school.

ACCELERATED READER

This week your reader brought home an informational sheet on Accelerated Reader. AR is a country-wide reading program which encourages and motivates students to read books at home and school to help ACCELERATE their love of reading and skills.
Students are given the opportunity to take tests at school and now at HOME! Please read, review, discuss, and sign the Parent and Reader Home Contract and return to school. Each student was told that taking a test at home is an exercise in trust and honesty.
AR will no longer be used as a reading grade but rather a tool to help guide the reading teacher's instruction for your student. Students who reach their goal will be recognized for their accomplishment but we will no longer be doing the Wall of Fame.
We hope these changes will help instill their love of reading and accelerate their reading skills!
The AR website is below:

You may also find the AR link on the bottom of the St. Joseph School website. Questions? Please contact Courtney Schreiber at:

SJS ON-LINE FAMILY DIRECTORY

This year we have decided to use an on-line format for our SJS family directory. In order for you to view or print this on-line directory, please log in to your Sycamore account. On the home page, please select "Front Desk" on the left hand side. You will then click on "Family Directory". You can use the alphabet chart at the top to look up a specific last name or you can use the search box. It is very simple to print the entire directory by clicking the "print" option.
Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"

STUDENT ABSENCES (Handbook pages 7 & 8)

When a child is sick, a parent should notify the school office each day that the child will be absent. Parents, please call 859-578-2742 as soon as the decision is made to keep a child home.  Requests for books and homework should be made when the parent makes the phone call.

STUDENTS TRANSPORTATION (Handbook pages 15 & 16)

Students shall ride the bus to which he or she is assigned to and from school each day, and shall get on and off the bus at the same stop each day unless written permission to the contrary is granted. To obtain the form permitting the child to ride a different bus or get off at a different stop, the child must bring in a written note from their parent or guardian on the day the change is necessary. The address of the destination should be included.
This applies to changing from riding the bus to being a car rider as well as walking after school. If there are changes in your child's normal schedule, please send a note or call the office.
