10th Annual Apple Harvest Day 5K Road Race
Saturday, October 6th, 8:30am
River Street, Dover
The Apple Harvest Day 5K Road Race, sponsored by Wentworth Health Partners-Seacoast Orthopedics & Sports Medicine and Center for Orthopedics & Joint Replacement, kicks off the Seacoast's premier autumn street festival. The 5K Road Race starts on River Street and ends on Washington Street in downtown Dover. The USTAF certified course runs directly through the Apple Harvest Day festival site on Washington Street and Central Avenue, and then winds through historic Dover on a rolling course that is suitable for beginner runners and walkers, as well as advanced racers. The AHD 5K Road Race is directed by No Finish Line Running and is part of the Dover Road Race Series. www.dovernh.org/5k

Toddlerfest 
September 15th-30th
Now that the big kids are back in school, it's time to celebrate our youngest visitors! During Toddlerfest visitors can enjoy crafts in our art studio that will stretch those budding fine and gross motor skills. Children and their caregivers will bond over special projects and activities that embrace early literacy development. Every year we assemble a dynamic line-up of special guests that will share their expertise - special guests will explore music and art therapy, toddler yoga, literacy, healthy food choices, science, child development and more! This year's Toddlerfest will also include a FREE Family Fun Day on Saturday, September 22, 10am-5pm! Walking Tours of Historic Dover
Now through September 29th
The Dover Chamber is once again offering walking tours of historic Dover on Saturday mornings at 10:30 a.m. Three different 90 minute walking tours will be offered throughout the summer and take place from one of three Dover locations as specified on the tour schedule.

The next Downtown Tour will be held on Saturday, September 22nd  at 10:30a.m. The Downtown Tour departs from the Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce parking lot (550 Central Avenue.) Take a guided stroll down Central Avenue and the Central Business District, learn all about the rise and fall of the textile industry and Dover's Black Day while hearing personal tales of Dover's history

Stayin' Alive: Bee Gees Tribute

Shot Down - A Forum: Protection of Migratory Birds and Endangered Species: What's Next?

The Dover Democratic Committee's Energy and Environment Action Group will host "Shot Down: A Forum," a discussion about the implications of U.S. government challenges to long-held interpretations of both the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and the Endangered Species Act. The forum will be of interest to proponents of wildlife and migratory bird protection, as well as individuals with general concerns about the prospects of degradation of environmental protections in general. State Senator David Watters will moderate the session. The panelist are: Dr. Kurk Dorsey will highlight the history of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, a sterling example of how science, economics and sentiment were able to come together 100 years ago to create a monumental piece of environmental legislation. Dr. Carol Foss will discuss the implications for New Hampshire wildlife protection of recently enacted changes in the rules for implementing the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, as well as rule changes for the Endangered Species Act. Dr. Clay Mitchell will shed light on the broader implications the weakening of the Migratory Bird and Endangered Species Acts could have on environmental legislation in general. www.doverdemocrats.org

'Night, Mother won the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Thelma "Mama" Cates, is an aging widow who lives on an isolated country road with her daughter, Jessie. Jessie is divorced, unemployed and suffers from depression as she struggles through life. After Jessie finds her father's old revolver, she tells Mama that she is going to kill herself. The subsequent interaction and conversation reveals some old secrets - and many bottled-up feelings emerge from both women. The play centers on a powerful mother-daughter relationship which becomes stronger than ever as Jessie continues to contemplate her harrowing decision. Directed by Dave Costa. 

The play aims to raise awareness of suicide prevention; after each performance, a panel of professionals will be available to answer questions on this difficult topic.  Proceeds from the production will be donated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) and the Out of the Darkness Walk.  Tickets: www.theartcenterdover.com; the suggested donation is $20.

6th Annual Trick or Trot 5K & Kids Fun Run

A fundraiser for the DMS PTA, the race will begin at Shaws Lane, in Dover, New Hampshire at  8:15am with the Kids Fun Run; all children in costume will receive a spooky treat. At  9:00am, the 5K race will begin; medals and cash prices for the top three male and female finishers will be awarded. 
Proceeds from the event will be used to enhance the DMS student experience by funding field trips, equipment and supplies for the nurse's office, library, and wellness departments.  In addition, funds raised will support materials for all classrooms, recess supplies, and special programs like the anti-bullying program, Safe Kids Strong Teens and other activities that benefit DMS students.  Early registration fee is $20; the first 200 registered runners will get a free t-shirt. Citizen's Leadership Academy

The Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce and the City of Dover partner to offer local residents a closer look at their community through the Dover Citizens' Leadership Academy. This program will increase citizens' knowledge of the Dover community and introduce them to opportunities to become more involved as active leaders in the community. The Citizens' Leadership Academy, underwritten by Eastern Bank, will feature discussions about local government and municipal operations and will introduce Dover citizens to opportunities to engage in shaping the future of our city by volunteering to join with others and participate as a member of one of many city boards, commissions and civic organizations.  Program Schedule  Register Here
