The Alberta Status of Women Community Grant Program provides one-time funding to not-for-profit and charitable organizations for projects and activities that improve the lives of women and girls in Alberta and relate to one or more priority areas:

• Increasing women's economic security
• Increasing women in leadership and democratic participation
• Preventing and responding to gender-based violence

Death is an unavoidable part of life that becomes increasingly more apparent with age. It is beneficial for your practice to obtain the fundamentals of grief intervention and be equipped to address dying and death circumstances. During this 4-week online workshop, you will be provided with a concise overview including resources, exercises and an opportunity to share so you gain comfort with the topic and insight in order to help others with confidence through death related circumstances of loss and grief.

Speechreading is a skill that can be learned through study and practice. These classes will introduce you to various cues such as movement of the lips, tongue, jaw and facial expressions as well as other cues making it possible to visually understand and communicate. Hearing loss involves learning to cope and understand an invisible disability. Coping strategies go hand in hand with speechreading and its success. You will learn new strategies and information every class.

In the 17th century, some indigenous women responded to the teaching of the Jesuit missionaries and found opportunity in the Catholic faith. In the fur trade era, not only were indigenous women crucial to the survival and success of the European traders, but some women used the opportunities provided by the fur trade to enhance their lives. Some indigenous women married French or Scottish fur traders and helped to create a new people, the Métis. Changing attitudes and legislation in the 19th and 20th centuries led to challenges and difficulties, but indigenous women have continued to meet these challenges and build lives for themselves and their children. The stories that will be shared with us are numerous and complex.

The intent of the forum is to explore the challenges men experience within their families and the community and work together to develop effective strategies to overcome them. The forum will be led by experienced facilitators from the community and will be delivered in English with interpreters available if needed.

This phone support group is perfect for busy caregivers who find it difficult to get out of the house to attend education sessions or who have limited respite options. The sessions will provide information and tips along with supportive discussions.

• October 15: Transitions - Transitions can be stressful and full of uncertainty. Learns tips for managing and preparing for caregiving challenges/changes.
• November 19: Conflict - Explore techniques for managing conflict whether with your care recipient, family, friends or others.
• December 17: Merry Holidays? - For many caregivers the holidays are stressful. Create a plan for self-care and how to make time for you.

There are no spectators in the big top; only participants! Each guest is involved in the investigation as their own character and will receive a detailed character description two weeks before the event along with some background information on the party. This will give you time to familiarise yourself with the theme. 

Upon arrival, the host will read an introduction and explain how the afternoon is to proceed. You will spend the afternoon chatting with other guests in character until the unthinkable occurs - A MURDER!  You will now need to find out more information from the other carnies and circus performers to try and find out who the murderer is.

In our visual-driven world, photos are essential to illustrate the work organizations do. The Edmonton Seniors Coordinating Council (ESCC) is seeking a volunteer photographer to take photos at ESCC events, meetings, forums, presentations, etc. The photos will be used on the ESCC website, annual report, and other promotional material. 

Requirements: The volunteer must own a camera that can produce high-resolution (300 dpi) photographs.

Time commitment: 5-10 commitments from October to early December. The commitments occur primarily Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but one Saturday in November is required.
