Student Led Conferences
We would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone that participated in student led conferences this month. It is a great sight when students, parents, and teachers come together to talk about progress and where your child is going from here.
Why student led conferences? White Pine Charter School has utilized the student led conference format since the school opened.
Students have greater engagement and ownership of learning and understand the purpose of their tasks. Teachers help facilitate the meeting, but students are the centerpiece.
It is best summarized by a student at White Pine Charter School. Audie Gutke, an eighth grader at WPCS, has attended since kindergarten.
"They are better because you are there to communicate with parents and teachers. If you are struggling you can tell parents and teachers your plan. You also get to share what you're doing well in."
The next round of conferences are February 6th and 7th. We hope to see you then!

Message from our PFA
Great job WPCS staff and parents! We had an amazing turn out for our carnival this year. The baskets were created from donations by families and staff members. Other contributors helping the carnival were Sam's Club, Melaleuca, Destinations Inn, Texas Roadhouse, Deseret Book, Cocoa Bean, Kneaders, Geraldines, Edge Climbing, iJump, and Guns and Gear.

Growth Mindset
This year we are working hard to help continue to build a sense of community in our school. We are doing this through encouraging our students to build a growth mindset. Students who have a growth mindset are driven to learn and encourage others around them to be successful as well. Growth mindset encompasses a variety of skills to help students have a positive experience with failure and see it as a stepping stone to success. Students with a growth mindset see that words have power and the words they say will influence their success and the success of those around them. Developing a growth mindset can not be successful without your help. This month, we ask that you encourage your children to see failure as part of the learning process and to realize the power of their words. As we work together to help each other learn more about growth mindset, they will be able to apply the principles, increase learning, and build strong healthy relationships.
Positive Behavior Supports and Interventions
WPCS Superhero Mailbox
This month, the PBIS team is rolling out the Superhero Mailbox! This is a mailbox set up at the front office for students to write letters to any or all of our PBIS superheroes (Willing Woman, Positive Princess, Captain Connected, and S
ignificant Surfer). Students are encouraged to write with any questions or concerns they have about behavior expectations or issues at school. At future assemblies, some of these letters will be pulled out, and our superheroes will solve the problem and talk to the kids about how best to deal with it. These letters will also be used by our PBIS team to learn where students are seeing problems that are concerning to them or that we may not be aware of. We are very excited to have a way for students to share their questions and concerns, and our superheroes look forward to helping kids solve any problems they are having at school! This month, we have been focusing on being "WILLING" at school. This means that students are on time, ready to learn, and responsible for following the rules.

Our funding is
based on student attendance
When you make appointments that could take your child away from school, please schedule them for after 1 p.m. We lose funding if students leave before 1 p.m. Also, please plan vacations when school is out of session. We want to secure as much funding as possible to invest in your children!

ll adults must have a visitor badge. When bringing your students in late, please make sure to sign them in before taking them to class. Otherwise, they may be marked absent.
Dress Code Reminder
Please make sure your child is coming to school in dress code. Our policies and resources are listed on the school website. We are more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
